After the surprise-hit phenomenon that is Titanique, Marla Mindelle is reportedly developing a There's Something About Mary musical. I mean... of course she is. If anyone can take a beloved-but-dated comedy property and turn it into a riotous campy stage piece, it is her. The big question is whether they can build something that stands on its own or whether it leans entirely on the recognizability of the source. Some of those iconic gags are going to be challenging to translate to a stage musical context. Hopes? Fears? Who do we want as Mary?

I’d love to see her in something a bit more serious. She is hilarious and I’ve been following her career for twenty years now. I’m curious to see her in a meaty role that isn’t a spoof. She’d be great as The Witch in Into the Woods.

I read an article somewhere recently,  maybe the Guardian (?), where the author was commenting on the dearth of comedy movies and they gave "There’s Something About Mary" as an example of a film that would never be made today.
