Don't get me wrong, I definitely think they deserve a lot more than what they usually get! No arguement here about that at all.

well, if people are so angry at what they are making they can always turn the job down...if they are indeed pissed or feel taken advantage of. there's always Denny's...
i'd rather make scale..actors can be ridiculously overpaid...
i don't think julia roberts really NEEDS the salary she is getting in her show...i am sure she is donating a lot of it.
ANYWAY...i still hate talking about paychecks and yet..i do..
Gotta agree with u Bennett
Why else did Heather leave theatre and make Lousy records?
and what does anyone make at Lion King???

again..i'd rather be in a broadway show working for scale then working at the Denny's!
whoever is in a broadway show and is mad about what they are making..feel free to give me a call and i will gladly take your spot!
Andrew - it ain't about the opportunity but the equal wages baby...
And speaking of - what you mean by Heather Headley's lousy records? - what was that one hit she had about the baby deliver the kiss giver the dried up liver - you know what I'm talking about...everybody sing now...
I like her vocals on "One the Record" my only quibble is some of her over enunications but hey! that should make her perfect for Mary Poppins. Good for her I say, let wait and see what she does with the role.
As for all our favourties who didnt get cast.. well think of all the more exciting opportunities they can look for rather than recreate an iconic role thats already been originated on stage by someone else
It also kinda fits with the way they have recast in London. Scarlett Strallen is a lovely Mary but hardly some big star. However she has been around and paid her dues in the chorus. Why not give the opportunity to lesser known performers? Especially as its the show that will sell tickets anyway.

Well, she doesn't strike me as Poppins material, but I'm not surprised at all.
They took the safe route. Let's hope it was the right route.

Do you think they will take the safe route altogether with the show? That is, make it more like the film than it is in London? That would seem so stifling to me.
Well, based on this interview, it sure sounds like it...

Yes, they are making it more like the film. The "edge" that LMK brought to the role in London will be softened and the casting of Ashley Brown pretty much heads it in that direction.

People might as well just watch the film, then. This really annoys me. Let the film be the film, and the musical the musical. But money is the sole object here for Disney. I forgot.
Vinnie - I agree with you. I saw Ashley Brown in the tour of "Disney's On the Record" and was impressed by her talent. She possesses a crisp, clear voice - with very little edge to it at all. If Disney has chosen to cast the Mary Poppins role with someone who will bring 'sweetness and light' to the part, they have done a good job. If they wanted an edgier, more complex Mary Poppins, they should have gone with someone else.
They are a public company working for their shareholders. They are not a charity. Perhaps painful to hear, but they produce these shows to make money and softening the show will make it a bigger hit. It was a modest success in London and they do not want a repeat here. If Tarzan has a $20 million advance they are looking for at least double here.
I am so excited for her!! I really didn't want to see Beauty and the Beast to see her, just like another poster said. I can't wait!!!
I just tried to post that Ashley Brown was the New Mary Poppins and it was erased!! ITS ASHLEY BROWN
It was deleted because there has been no official announcement regarding casting. At this point, regardless of inside information, anything is speculation.
Ok well let it be known that i posted it first!!
Why is that so important?
I hate the fact that Disney is changing the production when it goes to Broadway... it's fine as it is in Ldn... the gd thing about is that it's more based on the book than the film which makes it darker and more interesting. I am scared that on Broadway it's gonna be become a Kid's show... all cartoon and happy...*shivers*. And I liked LMK's more cool approuch to the role.
The only thing they should do is to expand the role of Mrs. Banks and cut songs sung by Mr. Banks! Except that I think it's fine... esp Rosie Ashe's role shoudl NOT be cut... the duet with Mary Poppins was just one of the best bits of the show!
How the hell did Disney pay for Toni Braxton, back in the day?
Disney is famous for being cheap in their films w actors too usually going w TV performers trying to transition or actors trying to come back. Sure its a company to make $$ but when u look @ what Eisner et al make- it would be nice if the REAL talent could get a slice not just crumbs.
Me neither. I went to Beauty and the Beast this January, just to see her. She blew everyone away. Ashley rocks!!!!
Not till More Casting is complete...
Mrs. banks has been but haven't heard any others.
I think Bert is still "up in the air".
are you OK Doogie?
