For everyone who has seen Matilda , how is the Mezz & Balc seating ? They have tickets for decent prices but I want to make sure I'll have a good view . Should i just get Orchestra seating ?

If you can get good Orch seats, I recommend it as the actors walk/run through the aisles, and a really cool moment happens down there too. I'd avoid balcony, mezz front-mid are pretty good. Are there particular seats you are considering?

Orchestra's really good I guess, but if you want to see all the really cool light designs, I recommend the mezzanine (front to mid) or the VERY FRONT balcony. The balcony is a bit of a gamble, but I HIGHLY recommend that if you do choose balcony, get seats in the first couple rows. I recommend checking Yelp or the website A View From My Seat, they usually give you a general idea of the view from your section. :)

I'll just add, if you go for balcony, do not go for the front row. Its quite obstructed!

I haven't seen the show on B'way, only on tour. So thanks for catching that!

I'd also like to add that even though I've only seen the tour, I can clearly tell what general section would be the the best. As I sat in the mezzanine/loge at the Oriental Theatre.

I have seen the show 9 times and have sat all over the theatre. I never had a bad seat. The orchestra or mezzanine are the best. The balcony is high up, but it still offers a pretty cool view.

Posted: 5/12/16 at 8:49amI've seen it 18 times I think, about a dozen of those at the Shubert. The most interesting seats are aisle seats in the Orchestra (or as close to the aisles as you can get), because of the actors making their entrances and exits, as well as a bit of a fun gimmick event that happens down there. Mezzanine is all right if you just want a view, but I wouldn't recommend the balcony.

When I went to see the show at the shubert I sat in the second to last row in the mezzanine. My view was obstructed by the low hanging balcony and it cut off the top part of the stage. So I could not really see some moments, but the seats were just okay. I would highly recommend the front of the mezzanine

I have sat in both the orchestra and balcony for the show. The orchestra was fine. As far as the actors walking down the aisle and the cool moment, they wouldn't make me pay to sit there again. I sat mid balcony on the left when I first saw it and had a perfect view. They use the box seats on both sides for the show and the view of that was much better upstairs. I I were to see it again, it would be from front to mid balcony. JMO

I actually disagree Ifront row balcony id one of my favorite seats in the house. You can see everything in front of you, including facial expressions. There's a bar there but if doesn't really block anything. I have numerous pictures of the view from all around the theater if you want

That's interesting Notreallysilent 2. I had an awful view from front row balcony. A good portion of the whole front of the stage was cut off, I'd read complaints about it before but unfortunately decided to book those seats anyway due to a good discount. I've sat on all three levels and overall Orch is my favourite, I especially recommend it for a first viewing. The often discounted mid mezz seats are pretty good too though, however it's not very steep so if you have someone tall in front of you it's a pain, I have the worst luck apparently!

Although I don't usually feel that way, CLOSE UP is the best place to see Matilda. I prefer the orchestra as long as it's not way back. I have not yet sat in the mezz so I can't give you any tips about that, but the balcony is horrible. Sound is bad and unless you really know the lyrics and dialogue, you will miss a lot.

I agree with Kathy. The sound is bad in the balcony. It is also not good in the extreme left and right orchestra seating. Row 2 or 3 in the mezz or center orchestra are good and you see everything.

I saw the show back in 2013 and sat in front row of balcony (center). I thought for the price it was a GREAT seat.

The last three rows of the mezzanine are not good.
Nor are the front row of the mezzanine to the far sides.
Based on our experience.

Bumping this thread a bit -- I'm trying to get in this show before it closes and this will be my first time. Hoping to purchase off of tix4students and for the date I'm looking to go I have my pick of pretty much any seat in the last 4 rows of mezz or any seat in the balcony. Which would be better, do you think? Thanks!

I personally wouldn't love either choice but if I had to pick I would say front Balcony - over rear anywhere.
As noted earlier, this is one of the few shows where I actually prefer seating close up orchestra...I am usually a front mezz girl.

Thanks, yeah if I have my druthers I'm a front mezz or orchestra person but usually I have to be an I-can-afford-this person. I think I'll probably go for front balcony.

I have only ever seen it from the orchestra (lotto seats), but I will say that if you don't get a good view of the box seats, its a-okay considering I didn't even know that they use the boxes until reading this thread and I never felt like I missed anything.
