Just found out that Maureen McGovern will not be on as Marmee on these days:
Saturday, January 29, at 8pm (she will play the matinee, though, but it is already sold-out)
Friday, March 18, at 8pm
Didn't want people to be dissapointed when they got there.
that really sucks. i bought tickets in the beginning of November for January 29th at 8. I am very upset. I'm sure Sutton will be there though and I hope Maureen's understudy is good.
I don't know about her understudy. Has anybody seen her understudy? Has her understudy even been on yet? I know Sutton missed a week in early December.
I strongly suggest you exchange your tickets. I was very unimpressed by her understudy, and from what I have heard and seen of her performance of the website and the Broadway.com benefit, she is not to be missed.
I agree with Benzy. Maureen is not to be missed. Her "Here Alone" made me and my wife bawl.
I'm so upset I missed her.. Im going back Feb. 1st to catch her :)
I saw Maureen's understudy shortly before Christmas. I loved the show, but her songs put me to sleep. She did have a lovely voice though.
They put me to sleep also, but not because they were bad songs.. Maureen turns them into showstoppers
Absolutely. Maureen is like an alchemist. From where I'm sitting, she has a lock on Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
Agreed...change your tickets. Maureen gives the show so much more emotional quailty and I just can't see someone else doing it quite the way she does. But I don't want to bum you out...maybe her understudy has gotten better.
More shows should do what "Sweet Charity" is doing:
Have an established star (Charlotte d'Am) act as a standby. That way, even if you don't see the listed player, you still get a star. I don't have a problem with understudies, but I would understand how a tourist or someone else along those lines would feel cheated after paying $100 for a ticket and not see the name on the marquee.
If there is any way you can see McGovern, you should make that happen. Even another established star as a standby wouldn't necessarily be able to give the performance she does.
I do agree.
Maureen, to me, is the only Marmee.
I'm just saying that it would put some at ease if, say... Beth Fowler were standing by.
Is Charlotte D'amboise really going to be the Charity stand by?
Beth Fowler is a wonderful actress, but vocally she doesn't hold a candle to McGovern...
Again, I agree.
Just an example.
Maureen's the only one.
BTW, snag a date with her yet? I'm rooting for you two crazy kids to work!
ljay889 - if she is its a sure sign to perhaps get a new, non-celebrity roxie in chicago...tho with the weisslers it won't happen like that
Not yet, m.e.f. - but thanks. If we can't make it, I don't know who can!
Maybe me and Melissa... aside from the fact that we are both married.
Well Ms. M. and I don't have that obstacle. So it's just a matter of time! We'll invite you to the commitment ceremony.
Thanks. I'll book a sitter.
I thought Ms. M was married. No?
She was. She's been divorced for about 25 years or so.
Don't know, don't care. She's mine now.
Good for you!! That's the spirit!
BTW, did "Here Alone" make you a little teary? I bawled like a baby.
