It can't be the same... It'll be different, but who knows maybe it'll be similar and not yet another generic High School cartoon-production! I hope it adopts some of the darker elements at least.
I'm anxious to hear how they cast this.
How much crack does one have to smoke, to come up with the ridiculous notion that HAIRSPRAY will be gone within 6 months???
That's absolutely ridiculous.
Any chance Krakowski will be involved? I'd love to see her.
I agree that Cheyenne would be great as Sky too....

I doubt Krakowski will be invovled... but stranger things have happened. I personally would love if she reprised her role, but again if it's a totally different production I doubt they'd want her.

I know...guess I'm just disappointed that the London revival didn't transfer, I was so excited to see that production...

I try so hard not to be negative, but....
I hate Des McAnuff. How does this guy get work?
I think it's very strange that this new production will be from the same producers as the London production.
"I hate Des McAnuff. How does this guy get work?"
gives good blowjobs?
Actually, that is kinda strange that it's the Ambassador Theatre Group but a whole new set of creatives. I know that Michael Grandage is a very busy bee for the next year or so, but still... o_O
Just hoping that it has a Pre-Broadway tryout in Boston. Since one of our shows has been offically postponed. It would be great to see it take its spot. Maybe wishful thinking on my behalf. But we shall see soon. joe

I agree Brick.
Do we forget that the same guy directed The Wiz, Jersey Boys AND Dracula?
Yeah it'd be nice if Boston got one of these revivals as a tryout with Nice Work and Brigadoon cancelled.

It's not crack. Many of the posters on this site nowadays, sadly, are 13-year-olds in their parents basement, prone to making sweeping, stupid statements. I guess that the fact they've moved on from "Wicked is the greatest show EVER" is an advance, but still....

Yes, DRACULA and THE WIZ aside, even the staging of his "hits" are heartless and slick, lacking any sense of wit, wonder, or whimsy.
"JERSEY BOYS"? Efficient. "HOW TO SUCCEED"? Garish and overbearing.
Oh, well...
I'm just a bit upset that we get this Guys and Dolls and not the London one. I know I'm echoing past sentiments, but it seems so unfair since it was going to come here and everything if not for the (still) looming strike. I would have loved to see the production with Russel, Krakowski, and McGregor. When should they start casting this if it supposedly premieres in early '09?
Arrgh i just noticed i typed Hairspray (in regard to closing) when i meant Grease *slaps forehead*, i don't think Hairspray will go anywhere fir a long time.I do however think we will see Grease grosses start to decline (unless they do some stunt casting)
and allofmylife im afraid im not 13 but 29 years old, and don't live in a basement but a rather posh apartment here in the UK lol.To be honest though, if i had of read my Hairspray Remark i would have thought i was 13 too.
I don't like Des McAnuff myself but w me its personal. As far as directing- give the devil his due, he does spectacle well ( TOMMY, Big River) Shows w real intimacy, quieter character driven... Not so much.
I also wonder how he is gonna even macro manage The Stratford Festival artistic director duties while casting/ rehearsing a full blown B'way show. Somethings gonna give. ( Maybe the cartilige in his nose?)
Bhut 'ats just me.

I am also ones who are desperate to see Krakowski, McGregor and Russel reprise there roles. This is one of the greatest musical comedies of all time. This show would be an amazng in the hands of those actors.

Do we really need another GUYS AND DOLLS? The last revival was terrific. How about reviving BYE, BYE, BIRDIE? A great show, a great score. Seems with the nostalgia craze that is going on, it would be perfect.

Well, now that they postponed Brigadoon, hopefully that cleared up space a tiny bit and some of our beloved shows won's close.
ETA: I think people are coming to this conclusion because of the lack of available Broadway theaters. Most of these upcoming shows mention they want to open in a Nederlander Theater. Since there is little room, people are pointing out that something HAS to close in order to make room. So of course they are going to pick on Hairspray...it has been out the longest, so it has to work a bit harder to bring in new audiences. Even though they aren't the sellout show they were when they first opened, it is still doing great and who knows what will happen in the coming months.
In total agreement for a revival of Bye Bye Birdie. It is a classic and can even be updated for those who hate "dated" material. Many good songs and the choreography was great. I like Guys and Dolls but agree there are other shows that should be revived first.
Sherie has an amazing voice, but I think Jane Krakowski is a superior actress on almost every level.

I hope grease goes. taylor hicks is not as much loved as idols like carrie or kelly. He has a very little fan base. His name won't be able to carry that show for long. So i hope and believe Grease will close.
