One final time. Legally Blonde has been moving money toward the payoff for 70 out of the 83 weeks it has been on Broadway. I know there are many here who spend a great deal of time in their parent's basement hoping that pretty pink girly show will close, but Elle Woods has outlived most of the shows that have opened since she arrived.

Cheyenne would indeed be great, but I'd LOVE to see Patrick Wilson.

YEA!!!!!!!!! Now all the young folks will have a chance to see what a REAL Broadway musical is all about!!!!!

Because we don't have revivals every single season? Or because new musicals are not REAL musicals?

I'm thinking neither answer is actually true. Just because a musical is from the Golden Age, doesn't make it any more legitimate than new musicals. A "Broadway musical" is exactly that: a musical originally produced on Broadway.

I lvoe Guys and Dolls, but why do we revive the same 20-25 sdhows every 10-20 years?

Because they're great shows and every generation should have the opportunity to see them.

Maybe I should have elaborated on my comment on a REAL Broadway show. Was a time when some shows were put on for the sole purpose of entertaining, incorporating the razzmatazz that comes to mind when you say Broadway musical. (Please don't anyone start getting their girdles in a frenzy and shouting about the likes of Carousel, Porgy and Bess, Lady in the Dark and other more "serious" musicals -- I love them all.) Guys and Dolls epitomizes that type of show and may be the perfect example OF ITS TYPE. And there just haven't been too many of that ilk over the past ten years or so (excepting The Producers, Hairspray, etc.) I think it's great that younger people will be exposed to this type of show and can see what a totally exhilarating experience it can be.

Allmylife, I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for you more than anything else. I hope *you're* sharing in the profits for Blonde otherwise there is no explanation for your obsessive championing. Let the name calling begin.

Anyone who thinks Blonde will be gone by December is crazy

And to the person who asked why Blonde had a dead season at the beginning of the year well it could have something to do with thats how theatre works at that time of year for all shows.

If Blonde comes out at the Palace it will move to another theatre, there producers are doing everything t ensure that their show is a hit, and so far its working.

I think we will see Hairspray continue to slide so would not be surprised if that closed

Its such a shame you guys are not getting the recent production we just had in the UK

I dont want to start any rumors, however, I heard that after Rent closes they will be renovating the Nederlander. If that's true, I wonder if it will be done by then...

How boring...I was hoping the London production would transfer. Nothing can be that club scene (it's on youtube). It's so brilliantly choreographed.

There's no name calling required. And I wish I was one of the investors in Legally Blonde because they will see a profit. Between Broadway, London, the road and fifty years of high school, college and little theater productions (not to mention the Asian versions) this show will return mucho big bux.

The reality show license fee alone probably retured the costs of the elevator and let's face it, we have no idea at all how this show was cross-collateralized.

I am just perturbed that there are a few people on this site who seem to run every thread through the "Hmmmm, how can I take a swipe at Legally Blonde" filter.

It's growing old very fast.

The Donmar Guys and Dolls was a typical British revisal where the emphasis was on the TEXT at the expense of the sets and costumes which were low-budget.

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

2 things:

-was the last revival of guys and dolls in '94 with peter gallagher?
-These Nederlanders need to think about their space before they produce more shows. They are producing hits, and they soon will have no room to put more hits.

"And to the person who asked why Blonde had a dead season at the beginning of the year well it could have something to do with thats how theatre works at that time of year for all shows."

Well you know how else theater works at THIS time of the year? Shows make more money because people are out of school and are taking vacations. Which can account for the significant increase in ticket sales.

Legally Blonde had a great first year; however, I am wondering how much ticket sales will stay up with its target audience back in school and less people going on vacations. Eventually the hype from the TV show will die down.

I don't think it will necessarily be gone by December...I am merely curious as to if it can survive through the winter months enough to afford to keep running on Broadway, especially since they haven't recouped their investment yet. Just because it is doing good now doesn't mean anything. Again, it is summer and there is hype from the reality show. Shows can take sudden slumps during the winter months and be forced to close.

I really don't see Legally Blonde moving theaters.

And what to you mean if you continue to see Hairspray's grosses slide? They aren't really sliding. It isn't the sellout it was when it first opened, but I don't see anything numbers that show it is at risk to close. If you look at past grosses, they haven't done terrible with the exception of some slower weeks.

The revival with Peter Gallagher, Faith Prince, Nathan Lane, and Josie de Guzman was in 1992.

Hairspray ain't going anywhere. They're deep in the black with numbers frequently over 90%. Sorry to those who think it's going to close.

I'm really confused... this Broadway Revival might actually be a transfer of the recent West End production! I mean the press announcement was announced by the Ambassador Theatre Group whom also co-produced the show with Donmar. So there might be a chance it's still the same show but with different director/choreographer?? I mean that's what they're doing with Oliver in London! It's a revival but with a different director. If so, I'm not even sure whether I can say it's the same show... I guess not cuz with a different director AND choreographer it would be different but they're using the same sets and costumes...etc Whatever... The London production was really something special.

How could it possibly be the same show with a different creative team?

Thank you millie_dillmount and Princeton78. I was about to say the same thing. I can't believe how many posters have just assumed HAIRSPRAY will be gone six short months from now. Six years into its run, it is still pulling in big numbers and is typically around or above 90 percent capacity. Why would the Nederlanders kick out a hugely popular and profitable show? It doesn't make sense. And.. as Judy Judy says.. "If it doesn't make sense, it's not true."
