lakezurich- What?! No Herbie: Fully Loaded?
Boq, that's my problem with "Devil Wears Prada." It just seems like Miranda Priestly would never sing about anything...nothing gets to her enough.
How 'bout Requiem For a Dream with Christine Ebersole and Cheyenne?
Though I like the idea, I'd rather Heathers be made into a musical.
I'd rather have Heathers myself.

I think that Mean Girls would make a very good show. I'd like to see:
Cady: Anneliese Van Der Pol
Regina: Kerry Butler
Gretchen: Leslie Kritzer
Dumb plastic(name?): Diana DeGarma
Regina's mom; Cheno
I'd see it
Dumb plastic = Karen
Wow, rich, you really nailed the cast there. *and I'm not being sarcastic*.

Miranda Priestly's tempo for a song would only allow her to sing like one verse, any more and the show would run too long.
What about when she's in Paris talking about her divorce? That could be an emotional song...

If she didn't sing at all until then? I mean it could be a very stylized world, with the heirarchys and so on.

You could probably fit in a song when shes explaining to Andy about her blue sweater
I would imagine that Miranda's songs (if this is ever done) wouldn't be conventional, but almost militant marches type of songs. Much like most of Blood in the Water from Legally Blonde. Barely sung but fast talking with a beat.

I would love to see a musical of Mean Girls.
well... I'd actually be terrified. There's no way it could be as good as the movie. The movie is so...perfect. I actually watched a little bit of it last night :). SUCH an amazing movie.
OMG I hope this happens! I love the movie...I just hope they don't mess it up.

Exactly. Like "I Don't Get It," from Catch Me If You Can

I find it so cool when Craig puts in his opinion...
I like that idea though.

..sure hope Miss Cheno isn't checking up on this thread.
If it happens, I would hope that Tina Fey would be involved in adapting it.
The heart and humor was completely sucked out of "The Wedding Singer" and I would hope that the same wouldn't happen to "Mean Girls," as the humor used in it is the only defining difference from it and other such teen movies (ie "The Sleepover").
Yeah, I agree that Tina would definitely have to be involved with that. She is brilliant.
I actually love the idea and would kill to hear the song "I don't hate you because you're fat, you're fat because I hate you!"
See thats what I don't want to see.
There are clearly two different ways you can go with a film>musical adaptation.
Legally Blonde/The Wedding Singer or Grey Gardens.
Obviously content governs a certain amount of this adaptation, but at the same time I think that Legally Blonde succeeded where TWS didn't because it was able to bring in charm (quite possibly not the same as that of the film) that created a fast fanbase.
I think Grey Gardens is a supremely funny and heart-wrenching film, and the songs of the musical capatilize on both the silly happenings of the movie (Jerry likes my corn or Edie's monologue about costumes for the day) as well as the overriding emotion a character is experiencing ("Another Winter" and "Will You?") which created a show and score that couldn't be tossed away as trying to replace the dialogue rather than trying to accent it.

The other thing that made Grey Gardens work as a musical is that they didn't tie themselves down to the film order. They added an arc for Little Edie (actually GETTING to the gate) and played with the dialogue. It sounds like the problem with "Young Frankenstein" already is that they're trying to be too faithful to the movie instead of adapting and toying with it.
would love to see this! I think it really has potential as a musical, alot of it seems very adaptable. But I agree that Tina Fay would have to be involved.
Oooo, now I really want this to happen.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuVideos
