Posted: 10/13/05 at 7:51pmI met her after her concert in Seattle. She was wonderfully gracious. Was a little surprised that I asked her to sign my ticket (it was a ticketmaster printout) instead of the generic playbill.

I'm not sure if this has been asked in an old thread or not, but does she come out after matinees? I'd give my right arm to meet her (and by "meet," I mean "stand there like an idiot, while marvelling at the glory of"), but we're seeing a matinee on a two-show day. Am I out of luck?
Oh, and I did read Isabella's post.
I'm just wondering about a two-show day, really.

I think she would sign it.
I got to meet her in her dressing room at Ravinia after SITPWG.
She was down to earth and kind. I believe she is a true star.

Are you guys talking about meeting Patti LuPone? Or are you just setting this poor person up? I met her at the Fox Theater in Atlanta this past May after she did Matters Of The Heart, and that totally doesn't describe my experience. I will give her credit, she wasn't a total bitch, but she was very obviously "politely annoyed" by the process. I read in Sondheim Review that she's usually starving after a performance, so maybe I should have brought a sandwich along with my Evita poster.
I only ask about the "setting up" thing, because prior to meeting her, a friend of mine was all, like, "She's soooo sweet!!!" and after I related my experience she cackled (CACKLED, I say!) and said, "Haha, she's such a bitch!" Not that it made me love PattiLu any less.
Anyway, yeah. That's my story.

Posted: 10/13/05 at 10:58pmOh, I forgot to mention - she had this really cool "kung-fu" style of autographing. She held the Sharpie as far away from her as she could get and blindly signed anything anyone held up in front of her. It was like watching Bruce Lee take out a whole gang of bad guys. Very impressive.

Posted: 10/13/05 at 11:34pmI met her at this year's flea market and she was very gracious and humble. She could be a total bitch though and I'd still love her.

Posted: 10/13/05 at 11:48pmI've heard diva-esque stories about her but when I met her after Sweeney, she was very sweet and humble. She posed for pictures and signed autographs. She did say (after about 20 mins worth of meeting fans) that she needed to go and get a drink. LOL! She's hilarious!

Posted: 10/14/05 at 4:14amI hate to be cynical, but it takes an exceptionally antisocial personality to not be kind and gracious to one's FANS. As fun as it is for us to meet our Broadway stars at the stagedoor, they are, in a way, still onstage.

Posted: 10/14/05 at 4:57amJust to add, The best folks I have ever met were the ones my friends feared and told me to be careful, That they were "difficult". So is fire, if you don't know how to handle it. Be bold, Take chances...You'ed be amazed who's who. You're TOPS Patti!!

Posted: 10/14/05 at 10:22amI waited for her after Master Class, I was primed and ready with my pen, playbill, and copy of the play. She came out and the crowd, of course, surrounded her. Eyes glazed over, I thrust my pen and playbill at her, which she signed...I then traded playbill for published script and pushed that in front of her...to which she looked at and then looked away. I had the smile of a loon on my face just held the script out to her...She looked at me, said something to the effect of "I don't" and then just scribbled on it, to my delight of course. I walked away, wiping the drool from my chin! I think she took pity on me.

She does not come out after matinee's. I came all the way from Washington, 4 hours on train just to see her at last saturday's matinee performance of Sweeney and she did not come. She was apparently taking a nap. I was alittle angry, but I understand that show is great yet so physically draining. I hope to go and catch her again, this time at an evening performance.
I have heard that she is a great person, and to me she was the best Evita, Fantine and Norma Desmond. Lets hope she wins another Tony this year
