As have numerous Velma's.

Caroline O'Connor wore a wig, and I believe Bebe was wearing one as well. Sometimes they will have women wear wigs so they can hide the mic pack in there and avoid seeing cables running down up their back. That's where Marin Mazzie wore hers for the opening scene of Passion, though she said they would make her move it because the costume designer (I think it was Jane Greenwood) said it made too much of a bulge in the wig for her pleasure.

Yup. Bebe wore a wig for her Velma.

as Velma Kelly (circa Fall 1996):

Even Ute Lemper wore a wig for her Velma, as did Sharon Lawrence, as did Vicki Lewis, as did...

I saw Melora in person not too long ago, the long hair is hers, she is wearing a wig in the show.

Anyone see her and Brenda performing "Hot Honey Rag" on FOX 5's "Good Day" just now? I have to say, they showed a short clip of Melora singing "Roxie", and that was fine, but then they had her and Brenda do that dance, and it was...well, I love Melora, but the dance was obviously dumbed down because she ain't much of a dancer. Even if it wasn't, it just felt very slow and boring. I have no idea why they didn't just have her sing.

Hot Honey Rag wasn't dumbed down, but definitely at a slower tempo - could be because she's new, or because it's a smaller stage (and probably no rehearsal time, judging by the camera work) and they wanted to make it comfortable to react. But it's the same choreography.

And isn't Roxie supposed to be a red head?

I don't think that hot honey rag is something that was altered due to Hardin's abilities. I think if anything it was altered due to the fact that it was on TV. Now, I will admit that I didn't see this particular TV performance. But, I do know that when musicals are on morning news shows they do change things either due to the limited performing space or for time reasons.

I see that, but I guess they must have changed the original line.

It was in the song "Roxy Hart".

(While reading the newspaper: "something, something something seen with cute, red-headed chorine. That was me."

It was "blonde" when I saw the show with Charlotte D'Amboise. I think it was blonde in the movie too . . . ?

I chose, and my world was shaken. So what? The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

Yeah. They went by Verdon's hair color, I am sure other red-headed Roxies say "red-headed" too.

I am in the minority here, but I like the blonde wig. I think the publicity shots make her look like a more appropriate Velma, if that makes sense.

Here's her Good Day New York appearance

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
