So I went on the Memphis website to look at tour dates (there's a new website for the tour incase you're wondering) and on the home page in said "Memphis Lives in... London! Stay tuned for the latest updates!" Is this finally going to happen! I don't know how it would do over there but they would probably need a big name to sell tickets. Anyone know if this is going to happen or when it's going to happen?
Yea I just did and didn't see anything about it. Were you suggesting I post this there?
I hope it dies in London too.

Unfortunately, Mike, this show is wildly unpopular on this board. I disagree entirely with all the hate personally (as well as a great many other things said here) but that is the truth.

"What did London do to deserve this?"
ENRON, FESTEN, CORAM BOY, ROCK AND ROLL, MARY STUART, MAMMA MIA, CATS, Menier Chocolate Factory demolitions of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, etc. etc. etc.
Well that's horrible. It's fine if you didn't like the show but that doesn't mean you need to hope it dies in London. What did it ever do to you? I hope it does well, doesn't mean I think it will though.

It wasted three hours of my time, that's what it did.
Don't get me wrong -- I hope it does very well in London. Based on what I've seen of London theater, I'm sure it will do very well indeed -- it certainly is as vapid and useless as CORAM BOY, FESTEN, ROCK AND ROLL, etc...
It's a terrible show, but hey, it did well on Broadway, and I'm all for original material to be out there.
What does everyone hate it? The music is great, the story is inspiring, and the casting was basically perfect. And don't blame the show for wasting 3 hours of your life, you didn't have to go.

I didn't have to go. The show didn't have to suck.
Its been rumoured for ages but I thought it had gone cold on the transfer. Not heard much for a while. I personally cant see it doing well over here, unless a major star leads

A question I'm still asking myself.

The music was a mix of bland an awful, was that a even a story? and for months I swore that the lead had a stroke. Happened that was just an acting choice, I thought it was a musical about disability.
And don't blame the show for wasting 3 hours of your life, you didn't have to go.
It didn't have to suck either. But it did. Bad.

Some of those travesties you list, Roscoe, were loved by a lot of us. I saw SUNDAY... 5 times. I adored CORAM BOY and wished it had a longer run. And I will never forget MARY STUART. Two astonishing performances.

I loved Memphis. And, I had a rather remarkable moment...
When I saw Memphis, I sat next a black woman (I'm white). Somewhere in the second act I was moved to tears. The woman next to me was also moved. She grabbed a hold of me and we watched the rest of the show sort of crying in each other's arms. Didn't know her name, or her mine. It just connected us.
So, some people might have disliked Memphis, but it was greatly appreciated by many people, including winning the Tony for Best Musical.
I hope London enjoys Memphis as much as many of us here in New York did.

Jordan Catalano... this did happen. Wondering why you had such a strong negative reaction. And, why you'd assume I was not telling the truth. I was with 3 other friends (sitting to my left) and they all were sort of amused at the end of the show when they saw the woman to my right and I holding each other.
Would be excellent if this happens - it's a wonderful show.
ARTc3 - You want anyone with a brain to believe that some random ass woman GRABBED you, a perfect stranger and pulled you into her and you two held onto each other like you were watching Schindler's List, weeping together (in unison) until the show came to an end?

Yes, because it happened.
More details... I was crying and I think the woman to my right was taken by a white man responding so strongly to the message. It started with her simply offering me a tissue, which I graciously accepted. We briefly looked at each other, as we were still both focused on the show. She then grabbed my hand and for a while we just held hands, but there was another moment soon after that was even more emotional, and I reacted. (I'm a cryer.) It was at that point that she put her arm around me. It was a lovely moment and I cherish it.
I'm sort of sad that you don't believe me. I hope you're not always so untrusting, jaded and/or cynical.
Jordan I don't understand why you are taking this a some sort of joke and don't believe him. That's a special moment. I had nothing like that happen to me but if it did that would be incredible. Jordan clearly does not appreciate the message of the show.
