When the introduced the mute kid who'd been shocked into silence by witnessing his father's lynching, I knew he'd be talking before the show was over, shocked back into silence by some dramatic moment.
When he got the power of speech back at the end of the first act, I fearlessly predicted that at some point in the second act someone would tell him "I liked you better when you weren't talking."

Mike - Yes, I would post the same item on the "West End" board and see if you get a response. I am in the minority on this board and enjoyed "Memphis". I am not saying it is the greatest show of all time but thought it was good and a bunch of fun. IMO - Montego Glover alone was worth the price of admission.

Well people have their own opinions. That's fine. I just don't get how people don't just love this music. I thought it was amazing. I loved every song. So upbeat and Memphis Lives in Me is one of my favorite songs, ever. Not just favorite broadway song.

Mike Barrett, Memphis was a great show. That some people here didn't like it, is fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I too thought the score was excellent.
If you - or anyone - is to survive BroadwayWorld, they need to have a thick skin. There is a lot of nasty here. A lot. Even I have been known to hurt some people's feelings.

The kind of thing Roscoe mentioned doesn't get to count as a spoiler because it is a transparent and insincere cliche from the get-go, like everything else in Memphis.

SOOO many shows have moments like that though- Where you are like "CALLED IT!" LOL.
I personally LOVED the show when I saw it on Tour, I felt it was MUCH better then the two times I saw it on Broadway (with Pascal and Kimball). Found Julie Johnson as Mama especially incredible!

ARTc3 - There is no reason to hurt anybody's feelings and be nasty. People are not going to agree about shows/performers but why can't everyone be civil. It is fine to tease or joke about things but write it well enough to let people understand you are kidding and just having some fun. IMO - there are a few "Broadway Legends" that think they know it all and every word they post is brilliant or witty. In other words, they have a very high opinion of themselves.

While I watching Kinky Boots I went out and during the Song 'Everybody Say Yeah Yeah'
a girl that I did not know was so overwhelmed hugged me and we both knew we were touched by a life changing beyond anything we have seen before. Afterwards we ate at The Modern and I know have her phone number.
See how SILLY that sounds

Artc3 don't listen to them. You know what happened and that is a very special and touching moment for you. Glad you got to experience that. If people don't like the show that's fine I just don't like it when they hope the show does poorly and everyone hates it. That's not necessary. And yes I can tell people are very rude here. I knew that from the start. It's anonymous so people can say what they want. In real life I hope they don't act this way and if they do, that's disgusting.

I actually had a similar experience with the woman next to me at THE BUTLER yesterday. She grabbed my arm, and we shared tissues. I wouldn't necessarily say we held each other, but there was an acknowledgment of one another.

yankeefan7 I agree with you wholeheartedly. Sadly, despite your wise words there is still a lot of nasty here. I would go so far as to say, bordering on bullying.
When I realize that my "teasing" has gone too far, or that I have possibly hurt someone's feelings, I try to step it back and apologize.
Mike Barrett is correct in stating, "It's anonymous so people can say what they want..." I would have worded it slightly differently, but its true that one of the fallbacks to the Internet as a social forum is that some people see this as an opportunity to not put on their "rude / hurtful" filters and type whatever they want without consideration to the fact that there are people behind these posts. People with feelings.
As for my Memphis experience. It is mine and I cherish it. For those who don't believe something like that could have happened, I mostly just feel sorry for them. It did happen and perhaps if they'd consider their cynical nature and open up their hearts, the world would offer them a truly touching human moment. It is their loss.

You know sometimes what seems silly really does happen. I will give you a true story what happened to me at US Open a bunch of years ago that you would probably not believe. Years ago, I was at the last match Andre Agassi ever won at US Open against Marcos Baghdatis. Agassi won the first two sets but lost the next two. He came back and won the 5th set and the match in dramatic match and crowd was crazy.
Leaving Arthur Ashe stadium, my brother in-law and I were giving each other high fives when a young woman (probably in late 20's) ran up to me and gave me high five and a big hug. She then said wasn't that match amazing and I agreed and we both laughed. I will put it delicately (lol) and say I am old enough to be her father and it would probably sound unbelievable to you and others that a young woman would do this to a stranger. My point is you never how people will react and what they may do when something hits them emotionally.

What did London do to deserve this, you ask? CATS, for one thing!
Also, ARTc3, I think that's an amazing, touching experience, and I'm glad you had it. A few strangers on a message board not believing you doesn't change that it happened~
