Wow, She's so cute!
He looks like a real woman.

FANTASTIC! but needs just a bit of fattening up, doesnt look much of a triple E to me.
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

Michael looks great!!! It's difficult to see, as the close up shot is so close up and the full length one has Mel there but I'm not sure to much more padding is needed. Edna looked a little over padded in the film I thought.

He looks terrific. Just terrific.
Great casting choice, and from the video blog on Hairspray's London website is really excited to be playing the role.
Thank you Marc Shaiman! Can't wait to see your London Edna.

well, now that those pictures got out (and I wonder how!), I hope more do from that photo session, cause there are others even more fantastic
I am over in London now, and the cast is PHENOMENAL. We are over the moon happy.
And believe you me, I am adding and adjusting Edna's vocals for Michael Ball (who, by the way, is inSANE!!), and the West End production is definitely NOT going to be just a carbon copy of any before.
I hope we can get a new cast recording!

Mr. Shaiman, you aren't the only one hoping for a London cast recording!
I know I'd love to see some more pictures from that photo session.
So...could you possibly give any hints about what tinkering you're doing to Edna's vocals?

Marc,
Michael Ball fans are all very excited about the London HAIRSPRAY...some of us are coming from halfway across the world or across the pond to see Michael and the rest of the cast give us a great time onstage!
Please help make our wish for a London cast CD come true.
Michael is not only an excellent musical theatre performer but he does have a great sense of humour ( go ask Mr. Sondheim about it
).
Thanks!
Jo ( Manila, Philippines)

Was that Tracy ever in anything on tv because she looks incredibly familiar?

He's gorgeous, if a bit too slim. Leanne Jones is a bit of a slim Tracy as well, but the whole trio looks just great. Michael Ball knows how to have fun with a role, and I think he's going to have a blast with this one.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I'm sure Jones is great but she looks way too skinny for Tracy, IMO.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

That's got to be the most glammed-up Edna I've ever seen. Awesomeness. The blonde curls make me wish he was playing Velma instead. Can't you just see him screaming out Miss Baltimore Crabs, especially in this pose?

It's almost spooky how real it looks. I am happy he looks like a real woman and not a cartoon.
And Marc: Great idea, adjusting the vocals! Take advantage of Ball's skills, for sure!

Picture beyond fantastic. Edna is a winner. Love the family also. Are these people to be Americans in the production or a transplanted British family. If the show is about acceptance could we have immigrants included in this version?

He looks fabulous...just fabulous. The whole cast looks like they are having a great time.
As for a new Cast Recording...from your keyboard to God's ears Marc.
Glad to hear that you are having fun with this cast, and that you are adjusting and adding some vocals for Michael. Saw him in Kismet at the ENO in July and he has never sounded better.
Can't wait to the West End Production in November. All the best to the cast and creatives!
