Carolee started Lucille in "Parade". She also did J&H in concept recording.
Furthermore, she should be happy just to be on Broadway if you ask me.

Why isn't anyone questioning this? Was it officially announced or something? It's not fact because All that Chat has it up. I'd wait for some sort of announcement.
Oh and for the record, although she is a brilliant singing actress, Michelle Pawk is extremely pitchy in a lot of things she's done.

Michelle's a great performer, but she shouldn't be singing that huge list of songs every night with her vocal conditions. I'm sure it was an ammacaple parting.
Now for the next Donna...Blythe Wilson? Please? Pretty, pretty please!? She was the best I've seen (and for those who may not know, closed the TO production).
Yes but she has replaced many more people than the average actress.
And Pop, bite me.
a girl's gotta eat and there may not be that many "new" roles for carolee to claim. what that's been produced in the last year has a role for her express talents?
Louise Pitre played Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney (Canada)just after Mamma Mia...she was great!
Very sad. I so wanted to see her and John Dossett together. I was going to get the tickets to the show but that was the day they announced she was going to be out till Feb.

You can't just sit abour and wait for Sondheim to write a musical with you in mind to star. If being a replacement in a currently running show will bring in money, why not?

correct me if i am wrong..and i KNOW you will..but being "released" isn't the same thing as being "fired". being "released" is being allowed to leave a show and the producers won't sue you for the remainder of your contract because you're not considered to be breaking it if its a mutual parting. its a friendly parting and mutual understanding. i think the headline of this thread is an insult to michele and its upsetting to me because michele is a consumate professional and doesn't deserve to be gossiped about like this. i sure something OFFICIAL will be posted shortly.
and by the way...many "donnas" have had vocal trouble. it just might not have been publicized like michele's.

any thoughts of the new donna...
HATE to see her leave though, she is an AMAZING perfomer. what she could not sing she made up in a heart felt performance

How sad...I hope she recovers soon. I remember seeing an excellent understudy once but I think she has moved on to the Vegas Company. I can't remember her name....
Anyway...I agree...they are both too good for that show.
I agree with Andrew.
She clearly had vocal problems and singing this "score" 8 times a week is not easy.
That said, I think any one of us who claims to know anything about contemporary musical theatre knows that Pawk is one of our true gifts.
Agreed Carol Linnea Johnson is AMAZING.. I wish they'd bring Jeanine Morrick back though... that lady can SANGGGG!

i saw her Jeanine Morrick on tour when she took over for donna and imust say i was VERY disapointed in her performance. i herd she was a MUCH better u/s to donna than when she got the part. yes she can sing and was a GREAT tanya but her donna just seemed VERY strnge. i vote Monique lund, lauren mufson or laurie wells
Monique lund is a happy new mom who is currently appearing in the ensemble of "Lord Of The Rings" in toronto =D
SirLiir - It was the same for me. I have never seen the show, was going to buy tickets, then when I read she would be out until Feb., I thought I'd wait. Was hoping to see her and her hubby perform together and thought I'd see it next month. *sighs* I wish her all the best and good health.

Bobbybubby, I'm not a performer so I'm just looking for information. Why would it hurt Carolee to be a replacement and not an originator of roles? I would think that any performer brings their own stamp to a role; their own fire. Nor are there that many original roles out there to start at any given time, and there are a lot of competent and talented people competing for them. Wouldn't exposure in any role, especially on Broadway, be a help rather than a detriment to a career? Not to mention working steadily?
I think it's a little stupid to tell a whole cast, about 5 min. before they go on stage, that one of their friends and cast members have been let go.

i second that jeremy..if its even true...if thats how it happened, thats just dumb.
laurie wells is actually someone who had to take a long leave from mama mia BEFORE she even took on donna full time. i hear she is doing GREAT now..but thats just not an easy show for anyone.
and grizabella...its not always in a performers best interest to replace someone because you miss out on the perks of originating a role. a lot of attention and career boosting events take place when you originate a role rather than replace. so depending on where an actor wants their career to go. they usually decide with their agents and managers whether or not replacing in a particular show is really a good move, regardless of what bills need to be paid. its all about patience and willingness to start projects that may never go anywhere, etc...some people just want to work and will replace without a second thought. its usually much more prestigious and attention grabbing to be the FIRST replacement rather than the 3rd, 4th or 5th in a long running show. when you go into the show too far into the run, all of the industry people have seen it and USUALLY don't want to go back and see it again, no matter who you are! i WILL say, that the situation with replacements is getting better now though..as far as tony for best replacement..that is a draw to replace..and a lot of replacements are getting reviewed now too..although thats not always the case....
phew..long answer..sorry..but there it is.

Thanks, andrew. Now I understand more fully what Bobby was getting at, and the rationale. I can see where being a replacement of a replacement in the later stages of a show may not be wise. You're right of course. Career strategies are about more than paying the bills.
I'm seeing Mamma Mia on Friday, anyone know who's filling in?
Carol Linnea Johnson is now heading up the Las Vegas cast.
I hope they ask Carol Linnea Johnson to come back, she was phenominal.
Does anyone know whos going on in the meantime? I dont know who the first understudy is now that Carol's in Vegas..
