According to ATC, she was let go yesterday, and the cast was notified minutes before the performance. Here's a link to the entire post:

Wow! That's interesting... Was she not able to handle the role? The way it sounds in the link makes ya kinda of think the 20 songs or whatever were too much for her.
Considering she was continuing to experience vocal problems I think it was probably the best thing for all parties concerned.

She was probably let go on good terms if John Dossett is staying on.
Did she do that performance, or was the one before that her last one?

i must say this makes me really sad!!!. I thought she was the best actress in the role of donna. i wonder who will replace her. I say bring back Monique Lund or Dee Hoty!!!! Best of luck to Michele, she has MANY MANY more b'way shows to look forward too
Can we please remember just how reliable notices of people being fired on talkinbroadway and broadwayworld have been in the past?
honestly, if Dee Hoty went back in the show, I would see it again. i doubt she will though.
good luck to Michele in the future. i LOVED her in Seussical.

Dee Hoty is in the tour of Doctor Dolittle, if I'm not mistaken, so she's a no-go for Mamma Mia.

When she was in Sondheim's BOUNCE in Chicago, she was extremely, as they say on American Idol, "pitchy".
Pawk? Pitchy? She was FLAWLESS in BOUNCE...perhaps one of the best things in it. Have your hearing checked.
This is really sad because I wanted to see the two of them. John made me a fan after his great performance in "Gypsy."
Sorry for Michelle. What a wonderful performer -- but more of a very good actress who sings than a natural singer. I think Liz Callaway should take over the role. Incredible voice. Sang at the WG for 5 years in CATS. Saw her in her show with her sister and she was a SCREAM -- never knew she was so funny. I vote for Liz. She has been away from Broadway far too long.
Well then I hope Doctor Dolittle (and Dee Hoty) come to NYC or at least to Hartford, CT. I have never seen her perform live but have only heard good things.

Wow, very sad. I also adored her in Seussical. Good luck to Michele in the future
What evere happened to Louis Pitre I loved her in the role of Donna.
good, she's way too good to be in this lousy show
I was very sad to hear this but not too surprised. I saw her very first show as Donna and while she was TERRIFIC in the acting department, her singing was strained. It was painful to hear at times - this was clearly too demanding for her. Overall, though, I loved her performance - her energy and acting chops made it fantastic.
Louise Pitre (My no.1 Donna Sheridan and one of my favorite performers ever) moved back to Canada. She did a few productions, among them a very successful turn as Annie in "Annie Get Your Gun", and was just now filming a movie. She released a WONDERFUL cd called "Shattered" last year, as well.
WickedGeek, I am a John Dossett fan as well after watching him in "Gypsy".
Pawk is wonderful, but she was not good in MAMMA MIA. I feel bad for John.
John has to stay with the show, because he is contractually obligated. He would have to buy out his year contract.(unless he has some sort of clause in his contract that would let him out in this event, being as they both joined the production for the opportunity to stay in town and work together)

Carolee should go back after Lestat flops (assuming it does).
Don't worry, it will.
It seems to me I remember reading when they were both first announced for the show that they had a year contract but had a clause to opt out at 6 months so maybe John will decide to do that when his 6 months are up (which will probably be soon) or maybe he's enjoying himself and wants to stay.
I too wanted to see them on stage together so I'm disappointed that won't happen, at least in this show. But it sounds like her voice is having some on going problems that she needs to attend to. I'm wondering if the title of this thread is over dramatizing the situation. Was she really fired or did she and the producers come to the mutual conclusion that this role is not the best thing for her or the show right now?

Carolee was stunning in Mamma Mia, but she needs to stop doing replacement roles. She's always great, but she needs to start claiming original roles. Doing the replacement thing again will only make matters worse. (And before anyone types it, I don't need to hear the "She should be happy just to be on Broadway" defense).
