I saw it last night. I went to the theatre maybe two hours before the performance and they had an extra ticket for roughly $110 in the stalls all the way on the left. I could see probably 90% it. Prior to last night, I had never seen Miss Saigon or really known much about it but I was blown away by what I saw. The audience LOVED it. Visually it was on another level. The helicopter scene was mindblowing. The cast was superb. Kim and the Engineer in particular were standouts. Chris was very good but I got too much of a "good looking hero" vibe and that was a turnoff at some points. I could be wrong though, it might just be the way the character is written. The woman who played Ellen was fantastic but she did look significantly older than Chris and at times they lacked chemistry. Her interpretation of "Maybe" was stunning. The actor who played John had a lovely voice but he did seem a little preachy and that was a turnoff, but, like Chris, it could just be the way the character is written. Kim is clearly very new to performing for big audiences (I read that she is only 1
but she has something very special about her and the Engineer stole the show every time he walked on stage. As the show was in its final minutes, you could hear multiple audience members crying. I'm very fortunate to have witnessed something so special last night.
