re: Miss Saigon Questions

the miss saigon tour curtain was a scene of broken down buildings in the middle of war torn vietnam, it was actually really cool, but i doubt anyway near as cool as the red with the sun

re: Miss Saigon Questions

I saw the non-equity tour a few years ago.

The engineer was awesome and so was the actor who played Chris. The rest of the cast was pretty passable.

I think the helicopter scene for the NE tour is just awful - it would be better off with nothing at all rather than that dumb hologram.

re: Miss Saigon Questions

I remember seeing this show before it closed with Lea Salonga and Ruthie in the cast. It was remarkable. It has a wonderful score and a very good book (if you're not paying attention too well, you may get a bit confused). Lea and Ruthie were just, ah, scenery chewing. They were beyond description. I love this show and I think it is the most underrated blockbuster because a) it was a Cameron Mackintosh production and b) despite being wonderful it got picked on for having a top notch physical production and ultimately being labeled as a "spectacle". I truly love it, my favorite song is "Sun and Moon", ahhhhhh, I could listen to it forever.

re: Miss Saigon Questions

My question is what does the helicopter do? when its lowered from the rafters what exactly does it do? Is Chris in it? If so, how did they do that w/ a hologram?

re: Miss Saigon Questions

First, in the Equity tour it was not a real Helicopter. It was just the front of the helicopter. Not even a full half. When it came down and saw it was missing a back I was very dissapointed because I was told all the time it was a real helicopter. Anyway, when all the actors get into the helicopter they climb right out the back half (which I saw). Not sure what they do with the Non-Eq tour.

re: Miss Saigon Questions

is that when in "kim's nightmare" Chris yells "kiiiim" when he's going up in the helicopter?

re: Miss Saigon Questions

SPOILERS... i guess..

yeah... in the Broadway productions and tours... it's just the front half of a helicopter... but it looks damn good... but basically a huge fence gets brought down and the helicopter comes down... then at this point, it's slow motion on stage... looks really cool.. and then once it comes down fully you see the Vietnamese people waiving down the GIs and stuff... you see Chris running back and forth looking for Kim amongst the crowd.... John then grabs Chris to go into the plane and Chris yells "kiiim".... the helicopter flies off, the Vietnamese people look at the audience's directions (and here is where some of the BEST ensmeble acting in a show i have ever seen comes into place) and have faces of horror, sadness, anger, disbelief... i mean EVERYTHING because the Americans have left...they walk off and then the sets move away to reveal Kim who has just woken up from her nightmare... it's a very POWERFUL scene... gives me chills everytime i think of it!

re: Miss Saigon Questions

okay, but let me make sure i'm clear on this becuase i think i'm an idiot...

like all shows the London cast songs are different right because I just downloaded a version of "kim's nightmare", which is actually the beginning of "the fall of siagon" but it is different lyrics/dialogue (happy?) which give me a completely different feel about him leaving, I never saw it but i think i like it better Can anyone clarify??

re: Miss Saigon Questions

One word: revisions. The show is NOT that similar to the OLC anymore. And it hasn't been since about 1994.

You might want to try using the term "lyrics" if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about, as opposed to "words and stuff."

re: Miss Saigon Questions

I was in a regional production of "Saigon" for about 5 months and I loved it.

I was enthrallled by the music and especialy our Vietnamese children whom I adored. Our lead is an honest to God BuiDoi and alot of the photos shown duriong "Bui-Doi" were of her as a baby and toddler in the orphanages of Saigon.

I wrote a letter about my experiences in the show and the power of climbing those gates everynight as the helicopter came in to "Operation Baby Drop's" website and they published my letter.
Pretty cool!

Very powerful stuff that I am embarrassed to say I learned NOTHING about in school.
