So i just want to share this info from Lea's own twitter account:
She was asked by BrokenSword 008
@MsLeaSalonga Great! I wish you'll play Kim in the movie version of Miss Saigon. Variety has it, it will be made into a movie in 2011. TC
and her reply is:
@BrokenSword008 Ay hindi na... I don't think I could sing "I'm 17 and I'm new here today" with any iota of credibility.
I wonder if they are going to tap her as a consultant for the lead role?

I don't know if Chris can sing, but I do know that his brother Scott Evans, who's an out actor and plays a gay character on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, has a very lovely singing voice. He's also younger than Chris and may be age appropriate for the role of Christopher Scott in SAIGON's film version.

She's maybe a bit old for the role now, but I've always thought Mylin from the 90s Mickey Mouse Club had a really nice voice.

Chris Evans would be a brilliant choice if he can sing.

Posted: 11/17/09 at 6:00pmRyan Gosling could probably sing Chris decently.

Well I guess they finally found a strong contender for Miss Saigon (Kim). And would you believe it? I think both Kim and Chris will be Disney Stars.
Meet Anna Maria Perez De Tagle aka Ashley Dewitt from Hannah Montana and Camp Rock. She was already seen by Cameroon Mackintosh
Here is a write up about her "audition" for the rold from Just jared:

Posted: 5/2/11 at 12:42pmPaula Wagner optioned the film for her production company and was said to be 'in talks' to develop it with Lee Daniels back in 2009, but to the best of my knowledge nothing has every been officially announced - the news articles being cited in this thread are well over a year and half old. They aren't really reliable as news.

Posted: 5/2/11 at 12:43pmThat article is from a year and a half ago. I would think if this is still on track for a 2011 opening then filming would have already begun. We certainly would have seen a good number of articles concerning the project. It's not going to be something small that could fly under the radar and just suddenly pop up. We're going to know once it's really happening.

Posted: 5/2/11 at 1:16pmThere are some terrible casting suggestions on the IMDB board. A lot of people want Jonathon Pryce as the Engineer... Not only is he too old IMO, I don't think casting a white person would fly. The Asian-American organizations are already angry about Akira.
#171re: Miss Saigon on Track for Film Treatment
Posted: 5/2/11 at 1:19pmI think the Engineer, like the Emcee in CABARET is a role that you could cast almost any age. I think they should bring back Linda Hunt to play the part.

Posted: 5/2/11 at 1:36pmI agree that you can stretch the casting age, but Pryce is in his 60s.
#173re: Miss Saigon on Track for Film Treatment
Posted: 5/2/11 at 1:43pmIs there some reason in the script that the Engineer couldn't be in his sixties? There is the line where he tells Kim that he will be her 'dear brother from now on' but that could just as easily be changed to "Uncle" "Cousin" or anything else -presuming that line is even in the screen play-- I honestly don't see any real reason why Price (age wise) couldn't still play the role.

Posted: 5/2/11 at 8:31pm20 years since Miss Saigon opened on Broadway and still no movie and no cast....20 months since Rock of Ages opened on Broadway and there is a fully cast movie ready to shoot. If Miss Saigon: The Movie were going to happen - wouldn't it have moved forward by now?
