I have my reservations about the current On The Town revival, but there was not a qualm to be found about the new leading lady tonight. There is something so exciting, so vital to her dancing. The entire Imaginary Coney Island sequence was an absolute thrill to watch and the Turnstiles showed off her humor as she oozed a carefree quality, almost floating around the stage. I know Copeland is but one person, but her aura fills that entire (huge) stage and when some of those lighting cues hit in the pas de deux and she appeared to be a bird in flight it made me think of an "exaltation of larks" and that's exactly what her being is.
For fans of this revival it is an absolute no brainer to go back one last time and catch Copeland's performance. Even if you fall in my camp and are more on the fence about the production I think this is the type of electric dancing that should not be missed. They should have given Lucky To Be Me to Copeland tonight because it's surely how she must have felt.

Just got my ticket for Misty's final performance. I didn't think I was going to catch this show before it closed and I am so glad it lasted this long and I am lucky enough to be there to see misty.

Wow! I'll be there tomorrow and I couldn't be happier to hear such good notices about Misty! Very much looking forward to seeing this show.

How lovely to hear - especially since her "Miss Turnstiles" dancing seemed a bit lifeless and grounded in that promo video they released last week. But that's what rehearsals are for! Jealous of those of you who get to relive this wonderful revival one more time before it closes. I'm not sure which has a better chance of materializing - an On the Town national tour or a Trump presidency.

Does anyone know if she is dancing the very last show yet? We have tix for that but I sure hope she will be doing that final performance.

She is not. Megan Fairchild is returning for the finale.

Oh well, maybe they will be taping Copeland's performance...
(but where is my baseball bat? I have to go break Megan's foot!) ![]()
Glad you all get to see her! And I'm sure Megan will be wonderful too.

How wonderful to have Megan Fairchild back for the final performance! Wish this production was being professionally filmed.

Another funny thing of note last night was during the bit where Stephen DeRosa wishes an audience member happy birthday he also mentioned that it was Leonard Berntein's birthday as well. He broke character for a moment and said Bernstein was only 26 when he wrote On The Town, so take that Lin-Manuel Miranda!

I recall a few weeks ago reading that Yazbeck was out with an injury. Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere but is he back?

As opposed to Miranda being 27 when In the Heights opened off-Broadway?

Glad to hear he's back and healthy! I remember it sounding potentially serious from the comments on here. I took them with a grain of salt but i was hoping it would not end his run.

About Misty dancing the final performance, this is in the story about her performance last night:
"Beginning last night, August 25, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland made her Broadway debut as 'Ivy Smith' in the Tony Award nominated revival of On The Town, continuing in the role through the end of the musical's run on September 6."

The on the town website still says Misty will not play in Saturday and Sunday evening performances. I would suspect the BWW article is just inartfully worded.

I guess her last performance is the matinee on the 6th.

Yeah that was my understanding. It is kind of misleading that the BWW article says she's performing through the end of the run. If I hadn't seen the information to the contrary I would've assumed that meant she would be in the last performance.

Is she on pointe? Is the role usually? Does it matter? I hear a lot of mixed negativity about this. The rehearsal was clearly not.
