Just need to add my voice to chorus of Misty love. Last night was my third time seeing the show and perhaps the most joyful, exciting performance of it I've seen. I had to make a return trip so I could catch Ms. Copeland in the role. I am so glad I did.
As I said, the show was in wonderful shape. The cast is clearly in love with performing the material, so that makes for exciting theatre. Then you add in the absolute radiance of Misty Copeland and you have something truly special on your hands. Her dancing is breathtaking, especially in the Coney Island ballet. It's electric, exciting, sexy, fluid, athletic, emotional, alive. All the things you'd want from a dancer of her renown in this role. And when that orchestra swells to a crescendo and Tony Yazbeck runs to catch her one last time as the lights cut a dramatic silhouette of the two of them... ooh boy. Good luck not leaping from your seat to cheer.
If you're able to catch her one last time tomorrow afternoon, I can't recommend it enough. Misty is worth the trip alone, but she's surrounded by one of the loveliest ensembles working today.
