Usher doesn't seem asshole-ish enough to play Benny.

Any speculations on Roger? That's the one I'm nervous about. This must be done carefully...
Jared Leto
I actually am feeling kind of happy about this. At least Mr. Columbus knows that RENT would be kind of killed if JT would be put in it.
I want to see Jennifer Hudson as Soloist #1. She has an amazing voice, and is semi-famous.
I don't think Taye Diggs would be credible as Collins at all. If you're not taking voice or persona under consideration, you might as well cast Timberlake as any one of the characters typically portrayed on stage by white males.
Queen Latifah as Joanne hmmm... sounds like a role that could definitely stand to have a newcomer. I have a feeling that Latifah would play her as a caricature.

I can't see Catherine Zeta- Jones fitting any of the parts in Rent, but DAMN that's a shame, she needs to do another movie musical soon!
latifa doesnt have the voice for joanne.
how about a rock front-man as roger?
There was some talk of Johnny Reznick from The GooGoo Dolls playing the part.
And Jon Bon Jovi, but I think that was just us talking, I don't think it was an actual rumor.
i love reznick's voice- he may be able to pull it off
Johnny is 39. Granted Roger's age isn't as clear as Mimi's, but casting someone who won't be over or pushing 40 by production time wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Thats a shame, because I love his voice too.
Rzeznick looks really young.
If they're going to cast a rocker, he'd be the strongest choice, I'd say.
Can he act? I think he looks his age, especially beneath all that hair.
Can he act?
We're talking about Roger right?
It doesn't exactly require Olivier.
I'd wager he acted better in the 'Iris' video than the two or three Rogers I've seen onstage. And, yes, that includes Adam Pascal.
Whether the character requires Olivier depends on the screenplay. You are imagining a Roger who only has to sit aroud brooding and occasionally belt out a rock song, but there is no guarantee that his character will be written for the film the same way that it was for the stage musical. I remember a while back I heard that Marc Anthony was in talks for Roger- I doubt that's going to happen though, because that's a little far-fetched.
Reznick is amazing. I really hope Columbus looks into him for Roger. I think though, that a rock front-man would be perfect. Afterall, Roger was in a rock band called the Well Hungarians and played gigs at CBGB's and the Pyramid club....
its been a long time since ive seen the show, do they say the name of rogers bands?
"its been a long time since ive seen the show, do they say the name of rogers bands?"
No, actually, they don't. It says it in the RENT bible somewhere. But they do say where he plays gigs.
rent bible?
Yep- the big black RENT book, the RENT book, the black hard-covered-duct-taped-together RENT book. It's sold at bookstores, amazon.com--http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=bsq1YALv0Q&isbn=0688154379&itm=1

sry that was me who mentioned bon jovi, i want Roger to be played by a 'rocker' and Bon Jovi was the only one i could think of at the moment, yet is a little to old for the part.
Roger should be Aj Mclean from the Backstreet Boys
Oh golly, NO! AJ's voice has always bothered me. It has no center to the tone. Too raspy and airy for my taste.
oh! haha, i have that book. i just never knew people call it the rent bible. i guess that is an appropiate title though
Why not just get together the Original Cast...this way they can just use the Original Cast Recording and we save $$$ by not having to buy another Soundtrack !!!
