Why not get the OBC together? Because having the movie as a separate entity from the stage show will be fun...
Just saw Today's Playbill article about Timberlake and the Rent movie. Nothing new, except the author seems as confused about the time period during which Rent takes place as Chris Columbus. He says the "early days of the AIDS crisis," and Playbill says the late 1990s? I was always thinking it took place in the early '90s -- though Mimi's blue pants would make more sense in 1986.

Let the speculation and rumors about cast of the Rent movie begin!
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that pop star Justin Timberlake is interested in starring the screen version of the Tony Award-winning musical by the late Jonathan Larson.
Chris Columbus ("Home Alone" and the first two "Harry Potter" movies) is set to write and direct.
"There is a role for a pop star who can really sing, and Justin is dying to do it," Columbus told the Sun-Times' Glare column.
"I'm making everyone take screen tests, including Justin," Columbus said.
Presumably, the role Timberlake is aiming for would be the HIV-positive songwriter-rocker Roger, who falls for neighbor Mimi.
Filming may begin as early as this fall. The musical, about artists and outsiders in the East Village in the late 1990s, is still running at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre. The show was inspired by Puccini's La Bohème. The show won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Please, no Justin. I would still like some OBC people in it, though Daphne is way too old. She looks like she's forty.
If Justin did Rojer I would die... and then kill Justin and the Director for ruining my favorite heh... orrr maybe Id just get really really mad.
but lets all pray that they get someone better....
Rent-tears, honey, why don't we take a deep breath and remind ourselves that it's just a movie.
Boo for J.T.
I like Idina's idea for OBC cameos...I think that would be great.
I also like the idea of Brittany Murphy as Maureen--for some reason I think she is capable of pulling it off.
What about Fantasia?? She seems like she could fit in someplace!
Anyways, as long as they don't throw in teeny boppers I'll see the movie.
NO FANTASIA! NO JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE! NO BRITTANY MURPHY!
NO PEOPLE! LET'S USE PUPPETS!
I'm one who would like to see some of the OBC in the film, some however, no longer fit. Anthony Rapp has been doing film work over the past few years anyway(A Beautiful mind) and though he would'nt be a big box-office draw, I would feel better about the whole thing.

Rumors are floating around Clay Aiken message boards that he MAY have been cast in the film. His new management company is The Firm which handles mostly major movie stars. He left AI completely, but is still with RCA. He apparently is signed to a movie filming late this fall.
Clay Aiken in Rent? But I thought Britany Murphy was going to play Marueen.
Anthony was in A Beautiful Mind? Who did he play?
I don't remember any character names from A Beautiful Mind, but this is the best description I can give. He meets Russel Crowe's character at the beginning, he is another grad student. he oges on to work with him in the same office. I don't remember much else. I doubt that helped at all.
Actually it did. I think I know who you're talking about... the last time I saw that movie I hadn't seen RENT, so he slipped by unnoticed.
As long as Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears aren't within a 10-mile radius of the movie, I'm happy.
OK all i can say is where are the audditions for this movie?!?!? What i would do to be at least an Extra in this film..... oh yeah by the way the cast should def. have christina aguilera playing Maureen. And my profile has other thing i think should happen. I think Maureen and Mimi should def be the big stars. I jsut dont know who i would put in for Mimi. (J-lo, Beyonce, ???) i cant wait till this movie happens though. I dont think that the OBC should do it they are too old (not Taye) and NOOOOOOOO Justin he will ruin it his voice is just bad.
Is that you, LucyCat?
i'm surprised no one has suggested neil patrick harris for mark. i can totally see latifa as joanne, being a power house, great actress, and has portrayed a militant lesbian in set it off. jai rodriguez would be my first choice for angel. fantasia barrino and frenchy davis of AI notoriety can totally be a part of the company--not to mention, frenchy has joined the nederland cast. jon bon jovi as roger is a stellar idea. he's a rock icon, sexy, and a great actor. maureen needs to be a lot sexier than britanny murphy. not to mention, i absolutely am annoyed by britanny. taye can stay as collins, but its a fairly simple role to fill. collins, much more difficult. no one i can think of off the top of my head. and mimi, definitely not jlo, but i agree. has to be someone big. i hear scary spice, melanie brown, is in the current cast. that would be interesting. and that would soo piss off geri halliwell, which i'm in favor of.
Ok I like most of JTart FC, but i like the Britney Murphey Idea and NPH would be such a wonderful idea! I'm happy that CC seems to have a good grip on all this and is a rent fan. I hope this turns out good!
i just haven't heard britanny murphy sing, and she's just so anemic looking, she wouldn't strike me as someone joanne and mark would be lusting over. someone ditsy but intuitive is needed, and britanny is just ditsy. but yeah, i hope it comes out great too.
Ah! I can't wait!! It should be really good! Hopefully he'll use most of the original cast (ie: Idina, Taye, etc...) Maybe also Jai Rodriguez as Angel!?
I actually think Beyonce as Mimi is a possibility, although B.Kno (*snerk*) looks too, um, healthy to play a junkie. At least we know from Austin Powers 3 that she can get the hair right! AND she can dance.
And that will be our bankable movie star quota for the movie. That's it. No more.
I saw scary spice (Melanie Brown) in Rent two weeks ago. She had no voice and I was surprised that they did not bring in her understudy. I then read some postings on this board and it seems that it had nothing to do with that particular performance but that is just how she sings. So a big NO on her.
so i'm a lil irked as i've been reading up on Chris Columbus's films. With the exception of Stepmom, i don't know of any examples of any indications of RENT coming out the way it should. there's home alone, mrs. doubtfire, the harry potter films, and the icing on the cake, bicentennial man. i'm crossing my fingers.
