I don't know...though I have an utter HATRED for Lestat, costumes is one of those things that it could get a surprise nod/win for. I hope not though.

I have not seen Lestat yet. But, I loved the costumes of Drowsy.

The Light in the Piazza has the best costumes, settings, lightings, score and performers.

They are all witty and wonderful.

I thought the costumes for DROWSEY were just OK, and nothing special..

the costumes were the only good thing of this show.

Are we only discussing this season? Some other shows that I thought had gorgeous costumes were Beauty and the Beast, Wicked, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Thoroughly Modern Millie (again, am biased on this one), and I'm probably forgetting more.

For this season:
There were some gorgeous costumes in Act I of Grey Gardens. Both of Chistine's costumes obviously come to me, especially the way that that robe flowed behind her.
I also loved that feather costume that Cyndi wears during "Solomon Song" in Threepenny Opera.

"Can we say Glam!"
Do any real people talk like that, or is it a phrase reserved for "wannabes"?

Well, it's certainly not TARZAN. :) What were those ape/macrame things? Ugh.

Not that much stunning costumes this season, but the shows i recently saw LESTAT definatly is on position 1.(although friends of me who also saw the San franciso one said, those were more stunning as the Broadway show)
Very colourful and susperb tailor made work, perfect match with the scenery.
I agree with Corinne on Drowsy, a good 2 nd position for Chaperone.
3rd position Sweeney Todd, but that's more for the complete concept of it all, very impressive !

I think the best costumes this year are a tie between Drowsy/Color Purple.
Drowsy is slightly campy, glitzy, over the top "Broadway" designing. It's perfect for the show, and Gregg Barnes does that work so well!
Color Purple is very realistic, extremely detailed period clothing, plus Africa. Even the ensemble members aren't neglected!
(Although Julie Taymor should have taken out a patent on Africa. Will anybody ever again be able to design an African sequence without annoying LK references?)
It is very similar to last year's showdown, La Cage/Spamalot and Piazza.

Drowsy will probably win for costumes.
The Color Purple, IMO (as of now), will probably take Sets and Lighting and Sweeney will win for Orchestrations obviously.

I think many Tony voters will be turned off by the fact that in TCP you can see the nipples of the women who are dancing in the Africa sequence through their sheer costumes. I was actually let down by TCP costumes, I thought they would have been a lot better.
