And performers...
Any opinions?
I'm going to start by saying that I'm used to artists being nominated sometimes for their roles and the depth of their roles. I must say I was shocked that Andy Karl was nominated for "on the 20th century" as a supporting actor in a musical, but I'm not hating on him, he is very talented, I just feel that his character doesn't require much acting or singing or anything...

Kevin Kline the original Bruce Gannitt in OTTC won a Tony for the role. So why shouldn't Andy Karl be nominated for the same role??! The theater awards bodies obviously thinks it's a role deserving of noms! I think Andy makes it look so effortless that the less astute audience would think he is not doing anything lol

I guess you're right, but I really don't understand the Tony voters, so why can't I say what I think? I think the only Tony nominated show I really enjoyed was Something Rotten. So I guess I'm also going to add that An American in Paris, Fun Home and The Visit were boring. That's all!

The Visit.
I went in with such high expectations for this one due Kander, Ebb, & Rivera. Too high... Expectations were definitely too high. Just my opinion.

Your putting "depth" at such a premium makes me wonder if you've never heard that "dying is easy, comedy is hard."

She thinks she's Rita Moreno.
This is a stupid thread.

It's between him and Brad Oscar I think.
I'm going with Karl because there is a lot of love for OTTC.
His timing is razor sharp. And anyone who can be on that stage with Cheno and match her deserves that award.

I've heard one or two people say that Dr. Zhivago was bearable, so I'd say that's the most overrated musical of the season.
(Just kidding, fans of Dr. Z!)
Seriously, though, I don't like calling something "overrated." It implies that there's some objective reality behind the fact that you didn't like something as much as other people did.

^This. (Just the second part, actually. I too found Dr. Zhivago an overall pleasant experience, with the music and performances making up for the too-long war scenes.)

I wouldn't exactly call myself a "fan" of ZHIVAGO. But I did find likable aspects, so it wasn't--for me, anyway--the total stinker so many made it out to be. Instead, I'd place GIGI in that latter category. What a waste of the talents of Victoria Clark, Dee Hoty and Howard McGillin.

Don't hate me, but I keep listening to the Fun Home cast recording and I don't get the hype for the score. It's so boring. Maybe I'd feel more if I saw it in person, but the cast recording doesn't give me any feels.
