Most Pointless Musical that is a HIT

I'm sorry you think that way...of a lot of the shows I've seen on Broadway...MAMMA MIA has a lot of heart and the cast has a lot of fun on stage. They also found a way to make the songs fit in pretty well with a script that is very funny. It has also lasted longer than any of the jukebox musicals of the date and continues to sell out each night.

What's the point of these threads? We all have opinions. I personally think that CATS was amazing, in its time.
My mom used to read me The Book of Practical Cats to me when I was little. I guess seeing the show live had some emotional attachment, I dunno, but it was amazing to see the character I loved as a kid in front of my face.
I think Webber did an amazing job.

Although pretty enjoayble, Sweet Charity is pointless.

I thought Mamma Mia was great. Kept my attention all through the show. I remember turning to my friends and asking "who do you thinks the father." I had to know! But then they cop out and don't tell ya. ugh.

I loved Mamma Mia. To me, the primary POINT of a musical is entertainment.
Of the somewhat long running musicals, the one I just couldn't stand and didn't find entertaining was Victor/Victoria. That one really sticks out to me as being the worst Broadway musical I've seen.

i agree with rentboy, i really enjoyed mamma mia! i personally, and nobody throw tomotoes at me for this, dont see why avenue Q is so popular. i lasted through about 35 minutes of the phantom movie, and spamalot has just really never interested me.

Mamma Mia. I agree that the show is fun, high-energy, and kept me entertained. But that's not this thread...the musical IS pointless.

Well, pretty much any musical is pointless if it's not for entertainment. I mean that I don't think we'll ever see a musical end world hunger or bring about world peace.

DWalk, dont judge the Phantom by it's movie. The stage show is MUCH better.
CATS, while entertaining, had pretty much no purpose whatsoever.
MAMA MIA is one of the only shows that I have never had the desire to see.

I find all musicals good unless the performers are having a bad night..if they weren't good they wouldn't be on Broadway or they wouldn't last long.
