cats. even when i was little i could figure out that there was no plot!
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell

To clarify....Mamma Mia is a pointless plot. I agree that they did their job and I was entertained.

Even though it closed, I would say CATS

the dictionary definition of "plot" is the pattern of events or main story in a narrative or drama for which CATS does indeed have. it does contain a narrative and a very specific pattern of events. while it is agreed by most that this pattern is weak, which even I will agree with, it is ignorant to say that it does not contain a plot.

Without question, CATS is the most pointless musical ever!

Cats! That show had really no purpose, it's amazing that people packed the Winter every night to see a whole bunch of people dressed up as cats singing pointless songs.
I think Phantom's story is romantic, whatever, but it's a pointless show! Same with Mamma Mia, entertaining? yes, pointless? ohh yeah!
To someone who said "Avenue Q" was pointless I disagree, this show actually touches on many issues and satirizes society.

Yes, Cats. But to be a little more original, I'll also say Joseph. Like I've said before, I'm not much on an ALW fan.

Maybe, Broadway_Baby, but can't we have fun bashing our least favorite shows while we still can? I mean, before someone else starts a new thread along the same lines in about 3 or 4 days.

Oh of course jam_man! But I'm not gonna be around when the cat fight breaks out...
"Cyber slap!"
Haha.
Edit: What I meant was cat fight (as in, well "rar!), but I just realized it could be interpreted as a fight over "Cats" ( as in the musical)...hahahaha...whatever.

Oh, jam-man, I just felt like calling you and theaterfreak "uninformed" to spice things up a little bit on this post, given that the Cats fight still needs to break out. However, I couldn't agree with you more, though I like some of the music from Grease, the show should not exist.

Well Mammia Mia is totally pointless. It did pave way for the fad of jukebox musicals. Although many ppl hate them, Mamma Mia was the first to bring the fad to the attention of the public, so I think that's something. The fact that its the pioneer (and the only one to get it right) of its type. The other show that I have no interest in seeing is Spamalot. I mean I'd go see it, but I don't think itd be that funny. I hate the OBC. Even Ramirez (SP?) can't say that recording.

Hey, unless we're talking about the recent/current touring production (don't know if it's still going or not), let's not bring Little Shop into this thread. Oh, hell - let's do it!

Wow, definitely, On the Record has got to be the most pointless show ever but the subject of the show says that is a HIT, was On the Record a hit? Ashley Brown was indeed amazing, even though I feel like saying she sucked just to break out a FIGHT!
