I am familiar with many older musicals, but – having just discovered the music of “Next to Normal” and fallen in love with it – I want to find whatever else exists in terms of gorgeous contemporary Broadway music. Which musical scores do you find most beautiful/moving/goosebump-inducing? Ones you can’t imagine living without?
Ragtime, Parade, The Light in the Piazza, Caroline or Change
Ya know, I looked at the title of this thread, and the first thought in my head was NEXT TO NORMAL
Spring Awakening and The Last Five Years
Billy Elliot and Spring Awakening
Oh, does Miss Saigon count?
Sunset Boulevard too.
And I know it's not Broadway (yet) but Love Never Dies.
Ragtime, Piazza, Grey Gardens
Miss Saigon
A New Brain
Parade
Rent
Caroline, or Change
The Secret Garden
Titanic
Ragtime
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Passion
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Sunset Boulevard
Tommy
Jane Eyre

I agree with the PIazza, Ragtime and Grey Gardens trio.

I think that the scores of "Titanic," "Side Show," "Steel Pier," and "The Dead" (unfortunately not recorded) were quite good. And I know I'm in the minority in liking "Whistle Down the Wind." (This is probably the only score of the last 20 years I actually listen to!) "Hairspray," "Spamalot," and "Altar Boyz" were also fun.

Adding to the love of Piazza, Grey Gardens, and Ragtime. It's such a shame that none of those shows won the Tonys for Best Musical in their respective years. Passion also has such a beautiful score. I have to round out my top five with Songs For a New World.
[Title of Show]
Everyday Rapture (both on stage and the Cast Album, although it seems very out of place)
Gypsy
Les Miserables (only the actual 'named' songs. not the sung dialouge in between - I don't know the actual music term for that...aria?...just made a fool of myself sayin that! haha)
Little Shop Of Horrors
Sister Act - Soon-to-be-Broadway!
Sweeney Todd
The Producers
Wicked
but my all time favourite score, ever is The Lord Of The Rings Musical, even if it is for the one song " Wonder". It did very well in the West End but i think it flopped on Broadway (didn't research that, don't quote me!)

^past 20 years. lol.
I don't think Gypsy, Little Shop, Sweeney Todd, and Les Miserables make the cut.
The Last Five Years.
The overture of Piazza alone wins this prize...
Umm , no, Lord of the Rings never had to go as far as Broadway to flop. It died in Toronto and had a quasi resurection on the West End.
Agree w Parade and Assasins and most of Grey Gardens
Titanic for sure
I agree about Piazza and Ragtime, in that order. everythingISpossible, you are so, so right about the overture of Piazza. Absolutely gorgeous.
