OH WOWZA! that made my day.
I absolutely love the "they bought my footage" scene. and I love how anthony says "oh yeah.." and the "kapow" by angel.And..well you get the idea. It's fantastic. Anthony is so freaking adorable. Also, im sooo glad they kept the original choreography for la vie boheme. I like how they're having fun with it, laughing etc, while doing the motions.
Also on an Adam note:
I love Adam's expressions. they made me giggle, yes, giggle. I also laughed when Jesse grabbed Adam's head in Santa Fe. The expressions there were extremely amusing.
Anyway..to summarize AHH SO INCREDIBLE! I cannot cannot wait for this movie.
cinematically it might not be perfect, but its RENT, and its ours, and I love it for that.

When that bike footage started I knew there would be lots of spoilers and such, but I just couldn't bring myself to shut it off. Right now I'm resisting the urge to watch them all again.
Despite the so-so reviews, I'm nearly certain that I'll end up loving this film. Those clips just give me the chills.
Haha, me too, ihearttheatre. Let's love it together, no matter what other people say. Yay!

Very good points, Steven. I couldn't see either of those numbers ending up in the movie. While they work fine in the stage production, they would work so much better as dialogue in the movie format.
MYB- I'm also very surprised that there hasn't been more talk here about the dialogue. Most of the people I've encountered here seem to be Rent purists who are very critical of any changes to the original show.
I must confess, I'm not much of an expert on dialogue-to-song transition. It's always seemed like a silly thing to worry about to me. Unless you're in my house or on public transportation, people don't just randomly burst into song. I see your point about non-musical people and the transitions. It's so much easier to accept the singing if that's all that's being done.
I'm thrilled about this movie, too. And glad to be having a good discussion about it instead of just gushing over clips (even though that's fun, as well).

Those clips are terrific!
"They bought my footage" made my day. Anthony is so great.
And yes, the 'kapow' was amazing.
Only a week away. :)
There really isn't all that much straight dialogue. I think for some reason I expected there to be more than there actually ended up being. A good portion of the dialogue is the libretto, word-for-word, but it's not sung. Without music and with changes in inflection, a lot of those things work just fine as dialogue. The only one that I can think of that still rhymes is "got a new man?" and "Joanne," but it's funny either way. The new dialogue is sparse, and it's really fine. The point gets across, some of the lines are *extremely* funny, and it's not cheesy or anything.
The transitions from song to spoken word are very smooth, so I don't know that there's much to worry about there. *shrug* I believe in suspension of disbelief.
I think time to process is a really important part of loving the movie. The more I think about it, the more I love what I saw.
I really enjoyed the added dialogue - most of it turned out to be *very* funny.
Wonderful input as always, Em. You just confirmed my suspicions on the dialogue. Like some of you above me, I, too have pretty much decided to love this movie. Of course, that's not going to stop me from discussing it and possibly playing devil's advocate in a few discussions.
"cinematically it might not be perfect, but its RENT, and its ours, and I love it for that."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
"Merry Christmas, bitches!"
"You're drunk."
"NooI'mNOT!"
*Maureen points the camera at Mark*
"It's not my Bar Mitzvah!"
I love Adam's expression that just says "Dude. Don't touch me."

Who says that one?
Collins, then Angel. Morning after New Years' Eve. It's brilliant.
I believe angel
No more, Em!! I want to wait till I see it on the screen!
Is it almost Saturday yet??? Of course, then I have to wait a few more days until it's in theaters and I can go see it again. Why do I get the feeling I'm going to be at the theater seeing this once a week just so I can tide myself over till the DVD is released?
Hmmm. VERY nice. Very nice indeed. Maybe I'm the only one, but the pacing in the "footage" scene felt... off. Like for a really excited guy, Mark was taking his time about it. I know it's BIG news and all and he'd probably want to build up a little suspense, but it didn't feel like he was trying to keep them in suspense.
*shrugs* Someone kick me before I over-analyze everything and make it sound like I hated the clips, eh? Because I was completely dancing around my dorm room (scary sight, lemme tell ya)... and it's hard to believe the movie is less than a week away now!!

he's taking his time because he's out of breath. this scene comes directly after the riot...where mark gets separated from the group and they don't know where he is.
Was I the only one thinking, "Take her! Take her right there on the pool table!!!?" oh, maybe I was...lol

I adored the "they bought my footage" clip. It's the first substantial chunk of dialogue I've seen and it was really exciting.
The look on Mark's face when Maureen kisses him is completely classic. I love it.
As far as the addition of dialogue....I do prefer sung-through musicals. It does tend to take care of that problem of transitioning in and out of song. But, as we all know, the RENT score as is has some big holes in it.....so I was quite glad that additional dialogue was added to hopefully patch some of the holes and make the story a bit clearer to those moviegoers who aren't familiar with the show.

Hmmm...now that I think about it, I've seen barely _anything_ of I'll Cover You. I wonder why they're being so stingy with that song.
Yeah really. I've only seen the very small small bits from the trailer but thats it. Weird.
Well, they are trying to appeal to mainstream audiences. So a love song between two men might be a problem. True they show part of "Take Me" but that song shows too girls fighting. Not two girls holding hands and saying how much they love each other.
