That was the problem, if they would have said "Movin' Out, The Ballet" I would have skipped it, but i was expecting a musical.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion about a show. But there are a lot of "different" ways to present a musical. I saw the show on Broadway and a covered a touring production for BWW last year. https://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=3303
The choreog. is the same.
I was unimpressed with "Contact" but undestood why it had an edgy appeal that many like enough to do very well. I'm also not "A Chorus Line" fan and it was a wildly popular show for many years.
Musicals are as diverse as their audiences.
I agree with every word Munk wrote...100%.
I saw CONTACT and enjoyed it very much...but MOVIN' OUT was one of the most inspirational nights I spent in the theatre.
The choreography was some of the best I've seen and I was completely emotionally invested in the characters. They were able to convey exactly how they felt with one simple movement.
Joel's orchestrations proved what makes up a legendary musician and I happened to be there on one of the nights he stepped in to sing the finale.
It was an engaging piece of theatre and I wish it were still on Broadway.
It's a shame that it has closed and was pushed out by Disney(Tarzan). I really couldn't figured out why a show would close two weeks before Christmas(a guarentee money maker for B'way shows) that's a hit, until I found out that Disney wanted the theatre for Tazran. I think it could have lasted through the following summer at least.
A little off topic, but are there loud gun shots in this show or are the gun shots represented by drums?

I don't remember any gun shots, I think they were just mimed. However, gun shots would probably be softer than the drums.
Thanks timote! Also, one more question...will I see Elizabeth Parkinson and Keith Roberts in tomorrow's matinee? Like are there any alternates for the tour's Saturday matinees?

Munk, I agree with everything you said.
The dancers were so extremely talented. The choreography was incredible and the amount of strength it takes to perform in that show is amazing. I am a dancer myself, and I loved this show. I have no idea how you can say this was the worst show ever.

It should have stated "Movin' Out: The Dance Revue" or "Movin' Out: There's No Dialogue, Only Dancing." Then I'd have been aware.
I don't think this show is worthy of being hated, but it is very easy to dislike it. It's less of a bad show and more of a not-my-cup-of-tea. I can't stand here and say the music was horrible, because it wasn't. I can't say the dancing was bad, because it definitely wasn't. The sets were fine, the lighting was fine, the plot was fine. But it just wasn't my cup of tea, and I don't even like tea anyways. It's definitely an example of an extreme "To Each, His Own" musical, as is Sweeney Todd, Wicked, and some others with completely different opinions on both sides of the spectrum.
My summary?
I'm not going to wear someone else's pants, but I might try them on. And when they don't fit me, I'm not going to say they're ugly pants, because they really aren't. I'm just not the right person to wear them.

I find it hard to believe that people really thought this was the "WORST MUSICAL EVER." While I may be biased because I have been a fan of Billy Joel music since birth, I did really love the show, and I was very impressed with it. Besides the electrifying music and incredible dancing, I found this show to be more credible because of its unique concept. This was the first dance musical I had ever heard of, and the first Juxebox musical I had ever seen. Also, the plotline I found not hard to understand at all, and I was amazed at how well they put a completely coherent plotline together out of Joel's music. I did not find this plotline to be uncomprehensible at all. More impressive, to me, was how deep of a plotline it was. I think it would have been very easy for them to put together a cookie-cutter plotline in order to string some songs together and hope people will come see the show as if it were a concert. I loved how daring it was, and because of this, I really felt for the charachters. This is one of the few shows that made me bawl my eyes out during a standing ovation.

honestly, it was a moving point in my life when i left the theatre. This show was amazing.
I love Billy Joel's music. I just didn't care for Movin' Out.
I'm with muscle. I am a big fan of Billy Joel, and a big fan of Twyla's as well. My dance company choreographer in high school was in Twyla's company many years ago, so we got to see the show early on. I have done much of her choregraphy myself. I have to say, however, Movin' Out was one of my least favorite shows. Billy Joel and Twyla just don't go together for me. And, I don't know how many of you are dancers, but from an experienced dancer's standpoint (at least mine), the choreography was very repetitive, boring, and not impressive. All in all, I really didn't like the show. Way overrated.
I just got back from the show, and WOW was it amazing! The only way I can understand how Theatreboy49 couldnt follow the plot was if he was in the balcony (like I was) since the Auditorium Theatre is MASSIVE. But I was able to understand everything with the help of binoculars .
The cast was astonishing this afternoon. So much energy, enthusiasm, and emotion from everyone. I think the biggest stand out of the afternoon was James Sofranko as Eddie. This tour is not to be missed.
Also, now Im kicking myself for not seeing this show when it was here (Chicago) for the pre-Broadway try-out.
Although by no means did I love Movin Out, I do not agree that it was terrible. The dancers in the show were excellent technically and performed the intricate dances easily. However, I thought that the choreography by Twyla Tharp was spastic and too repetitive. As the storyline goes, although I could follow the show, at some points I was a little confused as to what was happening.
I'm another that agrees with what Munk posted. Although it isn't what you expect, it is impressive and moving, and may not be for everyone, but that doesn't make it "the worst musical ever". The music was amazing, as was the dancing.
