Muhammad Ali musical being developed for Broadway

I remember a few years back it was announced that a musical adaptation of When We Were Kings was being developed. I guess that must have fizzled out.

Ali is a great subject for a musical. But good lord, that Deadline piece is NOT the way to announce a Broadway-bound musical in 2022. So many hypotheticals, especially to do with race and people of color/women on the creative team. Just keep your mouths shut until more of the team is in place and THEN announce it!!!!

I agree. Poorly written article, but Ali is a great subject for a musical.
Ali actually headlined a Broadway musical (as Cassius Clay) back in 1969, "Buck White". It only ran for 7 performances at the George Abbott Theater on W 54th Street - which was demolished the following year.

When Muhammad Ali was Heavyweight Champ all was right with the world. Doing justice to his legacy will be a tall order and I hope this musical will be up to it.
