i was not being sarcastic or ironic.

No, I don't - you're looking for irony when there is none to be found.
Not quite sure how this thread turned into me being the bad guy here. I never defended his actions, so stop acting as if i'm guiltly through association.

Wait how can a boyfriend be a Homophobe?

I don't think anyone has said nor implied that you were the bad guy, munk.

Munk,
Thanks for the story. I'm glad to hear that your experience was personally significant, and thanks for sharing it. It's good to know that theatre still can have this kind of affect - no matter what that affect may be. If you feel that it really did change something in your boyfriend, that's fantastic.
It's stupid to think that people - even in the theatre - don't share the thoughts of Munk's boyfriend, and the fact one of these people has had cause for contemplating their views on the topic is something I really appreciate hearing about.
I think the point you all are missing is that the musical had any affect at all.

Wow... I thought you were some girl with a bastard boyfriend, but if you're gay and dating someone like that, you might as well date Fred Phelps, I hear he's a killer bottom.
If Lincoln were alive today, do you think he'd be pleased with his tunnel?

This doesn't surprise me. Munk is a bitter fag who will never be a part of anything - and he's quite rude at that. The fact that he has a dysfunctional boyfriend does not surprise me in the least. Oh well.. tragic messes will always have that endearing quality.

He hates gay people?
Does he hate gay people when your sucking his d*ck?
What a c*nt this man sounds.

Wow.... this thread has devolved into total meanness.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your story. I'm still young and idealistic enough to think that people can change drastically (despite some evidence to the contrary). I'm really glad to hear that he was touched by Rent and hopefully the change that you saw after the show will be a lasting one. There's nothing wrong with wanting to open someone's eyes to new possibilities.
On the other hand, I can't disagree with what other people have said about being cautious. Don't stay with someone who isn't worthy of you--you say that he treats you well, but it's worrisome to hear that he speaks so deplorably about things that you hold dear. Not everyone is fixable, although I hope that this one is.

I know where your boyfriend is coming from Munkus. I don't really fit into the gay community - it's just not my scene - and that's probably his issue. It's too bad he has to be dealing with the situation so impulsively. Give him time. Bless you for giving him the chance.
Yes, RENT is still changing lives.
PS. Why did this become an attack on Munkstrap?? You don't know him OR his boyfriend OR the situation. Don't attack it and therefore, mind your own god damn business.

When I saw the show with my dad, he wasn't thrilled with the first act but was in love with the show by the end. I agree that the second act really pulls everything together

That's funny, cause my dad hated BOTH acts. lol.
This thread has become insane, by the way. Where's the love, people? No need to throw insults around!

I'm not sure I understand. Your boyfriends gay but he's a homophobe? how does that make any logical sense?

I don't really fit into the gay community.
How does that excuse the belief that all effeminate men should get AIDS and die?

This thread proves a couple of things I have always suspected.
Munk is an idiot.
Munk has no taste.
Munk has a huge masochistic/savior/self-esteem problem.
Munk's boyfriend has a huge willy and is very rich. (Okay, I admit I never suspected that before, but there is no other explanation for this coupling.)

Okay...I have never been more confused in my life. Munk is a male...and Munk's BOYFRIEND hates gay people? Am I the only person who doesn't understand?
Munk's boyfriend hates him? Sounds like fun.

That didn't make sense to me either, unless he was one of those depressive self-loathing types. But I tend to think he means that he doesn't like overly flambuoyant, effeminate types, maybe?

Those who don't like the flamboyant and effeminate generally are the depressing, self-loathing type. At least those who referring to them as "f-ing faggots" and believe that they should all catch AIDS and die.
Those comfortable with themselves don't give a damn how others present themselves.
