I am interested in people's broadway/musicals collecting habits.
Do you collect LPs or just CDs?
Do you systematically collect by composer?
Do you collect DVDs of movie versions?
Do you collect playbills?
Any other interesting methods?

I collect CDs of anything that sounds interesting, even if I know nothing about the show. I try to get at least the CD of the year's best musical.
I collect Playbills of shows I've seen except in some rare cases where I run across old playbills of shows I like.
I collect any musical lapel pins I can come across, whether I've seen the show or not.
We collect Playbills and refrigerator magnets. We sometimes buy CDs, and have many musical DVDs...both traditional shows and 'specials' like My Favorite Broadways and Broadway's Lost Treasures.
I collect posters of any show I have seen. Also, I collect any show nominated for a Tony Award , unless I already have it!
I collect CDs and playbills. Just won DARLING OF THE DAY on ebay last night!!! So excited to finally hear that score.
musical lapel pins? Is that an item that is usually sold at the souvenir stands at shows? I guess my eye never goes beyond the CDs or T-shirts/sweatshirts.
I started saving my playbills in the last 15 years, but never thought of buying them. I just read a post from a guy who had just inherited his mother's playbill collection. On the inside she had written the date, the people they had seen it with, where/what they had for dinner before and a short review of the show. What a great treasure of memories for him to have!
My original collection was in LPs, which had stagnanted for many years now, and am filling in some of the missing pieces because I assumed that they would for the most part never be available on CD. Which may not be true, because I was surprised at the number of obscure shows that I have found available on CD from the 50s/60s.
The prospect is a little overwhelming and I am just trying to figure out how I am going to attack it, by composer, by year...
I have always wanted to collect, but I had pretty much covered the market of used LPs, but now with the online shops everything is back in reach.
I collect cds, posters, and playbills.

Well I like to see any movie musical to be honest, even though some of them were very hard to get through. I also collect playbills. I have about 20 playbills hanging up at my cubicle at work, and some of the broadway posters (ie Wedding Singer, Rent) When I buy the cd - well I always buy the cd of the shows I have seen even if they are not that great (aka LESTAT which I will buy soon). But I typically like to buy broadway cd's based on performers - I buy everything and anything from Idina Menzel, Sherie Rene Scott, The Fosters, Norbert Leo Butz, Gavin Creel...ect. I think you know where I am heading with this!
I collect CDs, programs, PLAYBILLS, tee shirts. I have a couple of mugs and a few posters/paintings.

I collect playbills, CDs, LPs, & T-shirts. I'm the most sentimental about the Playbills.
In 2003 my house burned down in the Grand Prix fire here in LA. I decided to try to find the playbills I lost on ebay. Well, needless to say, my collection has now expanded from the shows I've seen to any show that I think is interesting. That ebay is a dangerous place.
I collect CDs, Playbills (a lot of 23 vintage playbills I won on e-bay came this morning yayness) and pins. I would collect T-shirts, if they didn't cost the price of my ticket.

I collect cast recordings. Ideally I'd like to be in a place where I get at least all the Best Musical and Best Revival nominees in a season. But I can't afford more than two or three a month, and there's a LOT of old cast recordings out there I need. I think I only really need two more 'Les Miserables' before I can stop collecting that one, happily. XD
I also keep all my Playbills! Which isn't hard; I've only been to New York twice and seen four shows. I try and keep my programs from the UK shows I see, but there've been a lot, and I lose track of the older ones. ;_;
I also like gathering up flyers for shows and sticking them around my bedroom. It's fun. ^_^
I collect CDs. I never consciously intended to do this, I just got the CD every time I saw a new show. Then I started getting cast recordings of shows I hadn't seen, and now I think the number of cast recordings I have is large enough to be called a "collection."
I also collect the playbills and souvenir brochures from shows I've seen, and I keep my ticket stubs as well.
'Les Miserables' that's funny. I have the french concept, the symphonic recordings and OBCR. I have mp3s from the german and dutch casts. I really would like CDs of those. I put the brakes on that before it got out of hand. The only music my father listened to for over a year was the OBCR of Les Miz. Couldn't believe he actually gave up John Denver. I would come over for a visit and he'd be walking around the house "Master of house..."
I buy just about every cd I can get my hands on (and if that means downloading or trading mp3s along the line, I live with that - but I try BUYING everything). It's not a cheap hobby. I buy most musical related items on DVD - especially just about anything new (my collection is pretty sparse on the older MGM musicals, for example), and I have a playbill from every show I've seen.
I don't know if the term for me is "collect". However, I have begun quite a collection of CDs. However, to be honest, I basically just copy them to the Ipod and copy them off of there. I probably have fifty to a hundred CDs of Classical and Broadway shows, but it's not because I "gotta catch em all" as much as enjoying them. Friends and I all share off each other and swap CDs and whatever.

I "collect" CD's and some t-shirts. I have about 6 t-shirts. I also keep all of my Playbills (they're all hanging framed in my room) and ticket stubs. A friend of mine in New York recently sent me a bunch of show fliers for when I go there, and I have all of those.
