Working is based on Studs Terkel's book of the same name (Terkel even does the opening introduction for the film version).
Margo, what is the movie version of Piazza called? Same name?
Pippin, I believe, is an original work. Assasins, also.
What about Baby and Pal Joey? Are those based on any previous works?

Mamma Mia stage show premiered long before the film came out, but wouldn’t count anyway because it’s a jukebox musical, so doesn’t have an original score. The best examples I can think of are In The Heights, A Strange Loop, The Last Five Years and Company

Parade is based on real events that happened to the real live person Leo Frank.
I've read that Dear Evan Hansen was based on a true story that happened to a member of the creative team.

Did I miss CITY OF ANGELS? I am not aware it is based on anything specific though it obviously parodies/ pays homage to several classic 40s films
City of Angels is nominally original but it bears a pretty substantial resemblance to a Stephen King novella in “Nightmares and Dreamscapes.”

Lol, literally why they had Parade under the “history/biography” heading.

Re CITY OF ANGELS, the Stephen King story was not published till 1993 4 years after CITY OF ANGELS premiered so unless Larry Gelbart got some kind of very advanced look that seems unlikely

Dear Evan Hanson was inspired by something that happened, but only the idea that many students claimed to have been more connected to another student that died .... so INSPIRED by, not based on.
