I agree completely with 'catstagestud'. We're definitely on the same page.
I'm seconding the question about Katerine and if she forgot the lyrics...did she?
She is one of the most talented, entertaining, and down-right helarious people I have ever met...I felt bad for her. I still plan on voting for her, but I'm going on a lot more than just what I saw this morning.

that girl Katharine today COMPLETELY for got the lyrics....she looked like a deer in headlights....not to mention she only sang like 2 lines from the song....I feel bad for her, cause you could tell from the footage before that she was good but to blame her nerves on the fact that she left her **** in the cab last night was dumb....NYC is tuff sweetie, learn it now.

yes, caststagedude, i agree. the belts were definitley healthy. I don't know the student so I can only go on what I saw...but I didn't mean to sound rude. I totally agree
Didn't think you were being rude at all Linkster. I work with Kate on a daily basis during the school year in productions so I'm going to defend her talent to anyone. I was just pointing out the positive way that these women are singing.
Cheers,
Christopher
Well...what are people's thoughts on today's performers? I like Amanda's "Good Morning, Baltimore" though I didn't care for her tone. Good performance but wasn't hot on her sound.
Andrew is soooo talented! You could tell that from his audition tape. "Run and Tell That" is not an easy song I don't think but I didn't feel that he nailed it. I felt the beginning was just blah for me. He gained momentum near the end of the song but their performances are so short you've gotta have it from the get go, ya know? Well it's time to get ready for work. Can't wait for tomorrow's "Ave. Q" performances!
Cheers,
Christopher
Oh I disagree Catstagestud, I think they were both consistent throughout their performances and really shined. Competition is getting tough, no? But what do I know?
I think just about all of the singers sounded the best on their audition tapes, and then did, OK on their performances. I don't remember names, but my favorites are def. the Hairspray duo from today, and I could tell that the girl who did the dumpster song (from wedding singer, whatever the name is) was a fabulous performer even with the forgetting of the lyrics.
I felt really bad for her too because who DOESN'T know the lyrics to 'Take Me or Leave Me' or 'ALl that Jazz'????! She had to learn a whole new song...and under that much pressure you're bound to forget lyrics to a song you just learned.
So She was my overrall favorite, as well as the guy who sang 'ALl I care about', but I think if I had to vote right now I'd vote for the two students who did Hairspray...they seemed really solid.
Can't wait for tomorrow! thank god for TiVo (I don't wake up that early!).

I’ve watched from the very beginning and I think for 18-21 year olds performing LIVE for probably the first time on national television every one of them has done a fantastic job. I think what’s lacking is someone who has great stage presence/personality, and vocal ability. But so far I think everyone has had either one or the other, if not a hint of both. Nevertheless it’s obvious that they are all talented and that Bernard Telsey clearly chose them for some reason.
And I agree, everyone, from the looks of their audition tapes sounded great and then good/ok in their performance. Which is understandable, especially if they didn't get to pick their own music.

It's on between 8:30 and 9.
I missed todays
There is no way in h*ll I will miss tomorrows!
Rentboy, the winner gets a walk-on in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
See Life...I'm not sure...I know that the two today are very talented; Bernard Telsey was very smart in choosing them (I mean the guy casts some of the biggest shows on B'way, I'll trust his decisions no matter what) but I didn't care for their voices per say.
Stephanie, I don't think that the fact that she learned the song in the last week is a valid excuse for flubbing lyrics. Kyle learned his song in the last three days and did a great job. Yes you could tell that she was excellent from her audition tape but this is a profession that all ten of these students want to be a part of; learning shows is something that you have to be on top of your game with. In summer stock you'll get rehearsal for a week before putting up a show sometimes and if the show is relatively unknown the producers, director, and musical director are still going to expect you to learn your music before opening.
The segments have consistently been at about 8:45 each day and the segment last from 6-7 min. Hope everyone enjoys Ave. Q day!
Cheers,
Christopher

When's it end? I'll attempt to set my alarm to watch it tommrow, but I'll probably end up sleeping through it again.

Cat - s**t happens, nerves, stress, people forget their lyrics, people make up lyrics...it happens all the time, everyday, even on Broadway. Get off your high horse. She obviously made it this far for a reason. There's no reason to lay into her.

I agree, catstagestud. These are MT majors and they should be more than capable of learning a song (and not even an entire song!) in less than a week. They've had individual coaching and assistance with it. There's no excuse for forgetting lyrics. It shouldn't matter if it's their first time 'before a national audience'. Most theatre majors have performed for years before live audiences and if they plan to make this their career, which they obviously do, they should be making every effort to take advantage of this opportunity. Putting a show up quickly is pretty routine and it's a lot more difficult to do that than it is to learn a song. There are kids in non-Equity tours who are the same age as these kids and who are performing eight shows a week while travelling across the continent and who are much more impressive. Too many excuses are being made for what, in my opinion, have been too many unimpressive performances.
I personally think Kyle has been the highlight so far, by a long shot. After watching all week, I can now understand why so many schools declined the offer to get involved in this.

I don't understand why people are being so judgemental about the whole thing. "no excuse"... I'm sorry, these kids are human. I don't care WHO you are, forgetting **** happens all the time to SEASONED professionals. The number of years you've been performing in front of live audiences doesn't make you immune to being human. And performing in front of a camera that is being watched by millions is undoubtedly going to make someone more nervous than peforming in front of a live audience; the energy is different. Until you've been there, I don't think you shoud be so quick to judge.

Makes me feel good on the inside though lol - knowing that I can be just as good even though I didn't go to a "top" musical theater school.
Just to clear it up, the girl who sang 'Come Out of the Dumpster' didn't forget the lyrics. They gave her the last little bit to work with, and that gave her NOTHING. You can even go on TWS site to listen to the end of the song, and you'll see that she didn't forget the lyrics.
Cannot wait for tomorrow =)
I have all the episodes on my TiVo... and I can burn DVDs from there... so if anyone wants to let me know how to take them from the DVD to the computer to clip them to save them as valid files and to upload them, I can put them online =)
See but I knew the words/tune to Kyle's song (Grow Old with You) because it's in the movie. I'm sure he did too. I still think she had the hardest job because it's such a new song, that was the first time I heard it, and you can tell she's talented.
Though I do agree, if it was me I would have had that effin' song known like the palm of my hand. But yeah....
Easily the best female so far was Kate on Tuesday. She showed maturity with a hint of sultry sexiness (not to mention her great range). The camera ate her up as well. The other girls haven't shown that same pizazz as her; as for the girl who did/didn't forget her lyrics- no excuses. This is a one-time shot; don't screw up. Crap happens; don't blame it on your forgetfulness. I have friends who have lost loved ones and performed the same day. Kinda puts everything in perspective...
As for the men I think it's much closer. Each guy has done something different to market themselves. It'll be a fun race to watch.
