I respect everyone's opinion linkster but I'll say the one thing that I think sets some of these girls apart from the Broadway performers is that their belt is healthy. There are so many "screechers" out there and its nice to see young performers whose belt is a really great voice as opposed to a scream.
Kate and I have worked in three shows together and she can belt to the rafters but she does it in a healthy way. She's got an extremely unique voice, one that I've never heard anyone else ever sound like. It's very distinct. Kate's performance was not one that should right now be on the Ambassador stage next to Charlotte D'Amboise, but each of these students are developing as artists, and I feel she did really well. I thought Sean Carrol from Northwestern was wonderful. His song fit him perfectly and it was an entertaining performance. Such is the role of Billy Flynn too so it meshed well for him. I was happy to see him do so well.
I think there's been one guy and one girl out of the six so far that I've questioned how they were the best in their program, that being today's girl who sang "Get Out of the Dumpster" and Monday's guy who performed "What You Own". The next two days are going to be really interesting.
Cheers,
Christopher
