My feelings about A Catered Affair (last night 7/8)

Knowing this show is closing, and having rec'd the reviews it did, I was not looking forward to seeing it. My husband and I had 2nd row, center seats---which I think was one of the the big differences in potential enjoyment level. I really was moved by this show----actually in tears at the end. Being that close, I was able to see the incredible emotions in Faith's face. She was just amazing! My personal feeling is that the extent of the music got in the way of the story---(too bland & too much). I also feel that this show would have played better off-Bdwy---a more intimate experience. (My husband was more bored---he spent alot of time watching the conductor flip music.) :)
Again, IMO---I enjoyed it-----thought Tom Wopat had a much deeper range than I've ever seen (Annie GYG and, of course, the Dukes boys)---
Harvey F was the comic relief---I really liked his character and his performance.
I'm glad I got to see this producion before it closes.

WICKED and A CATERED AFFAIR are two drastically different types of shows.

Maybe you should rush THE LITTLE MERMAID if you don't win the WICKED lotto.

jordangirl, while you and i have completely DIFFERENT tastes in Broadway shows, i would say go ahead and try this show out. i actually enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i would and that's mostly because i went in expecting a flop and got more than i bargained for. i, too, was crying by the end.

it really is such a touching show!

Student rush. $26.50 (I believe). Hasn't seemed like it's a problem to get it even up to curtain from what others have said on here. Some have reported front row, but others have said whatever's available.

Justafan, I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it.
It is kind of a shame that it played the Walter Kerr; it just didn't fit. Off-Broadway would have been beautiful. Or had, say, XANADU not existed and it had played the Helen Hayes, things would be different.
I so look forward to the many regional/community theatre productions this tender musical will receive in coming years.

I've been thinking about this show all day and the intense emotions that were dealt with and felt. Very well done.
Faith had tears streaming down her face----just so riveting.
Tom had such pain in his expressions----
I couldn't speak for a while after leaving the theater---the emotions I felt for these characters were so strong. I really never expected to respond this way.
I wish it would go to a smaller theater----I really think it would play much longer---but...

I don't know why I thought she was, but thanks.
