My rumor - Jessie Mueller to play Fanny Brice ~ Funny Girl/Whoppi called it

Jessie Mueller who? That's what 99% of the ticket buying public would be asking.

If Lauren Ambrose, well-known for her TV work and with some mainstream public exposure couldn't keep from investors pulling out of the 2012 Broadway revival of FUNNY GIRL, Jessie Mueller most definitely won't get them even a return phone call.

Sadly, looks like Lea Michele is the only name at this point that would bring back investors on any possible FUNNY GIRL revival.

How could you possibly know she doesn't have the comedy chops? Have you seen her in a comedy? Personally I'm still dreaming of sjb or kritzer but it's all just a fantasy, we all know Barbra had Laurents killed so she could move Gypsy along, and she had hentch men threatening producers in seedy back alleys to pull out of Funny Girl. No one is Barbra,NO ONE

If you look at her work on line, (Amalia in She Loves Me) it is on the lines of
an ingenue.

She is closer to Laura Osnes or a Susan Watson or an Anna Maria Alberghetti than to a character musical actress the likes of a Mimi Hines, Barbra Streisand, Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, to name a few. Leah Michelle could go either way...ingenue or character. I don't think Jessie Mueller can.

I suspect (and willing to be proven wrong) that she could not pull it off.

She just looked good in On a Clear Day because her voice was very good, there were few other woman and she had the best costumes.

I think it's safe to say from all these "Clear day" clips that Jessie can belt her face off with the best of them.

Jessie would make a glorious Fanny Brice. She can do ANYTHING. but we would love her back in Chicago. Take care of her NYC.
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

I saw Jessie a couple years back do All Shook Up and more recently saw her in Guys and Dolls. To say she doesnt have the comic chops in my estimation would be wrong. I think shed be a lovely Fanny Brice however, I think at this point as it was stated without a big name it wont happen.

I like Jessie and think she did a fine job in ON A CLEAR DAY, but aren't we going a little too far? Plus I'm still one who thinks Lauren - whom I sincerely think could have been wonderful - wasn't the problem in getting FUNNY GIRL going. I think the problem is FUNNY GIRL, a not great show forever enshrined to Barbra, which, most importantly, to be done right, is prohibitively expensive. If the show within a show numbers authentically even suggest The Ziegfeld Follies, and if fairly un-lavish shows like Promises and On A Clear Day can cost up to 9 million, then FUNNY GIRL, to be done justice, is a huge risk perhaps not worth taking.

Also, you'd have to wonder why the seeming multitudes with such facile objections to Ambrose - too Goyish, too pretty, not a big enough name, not known as a comic or a belter (whether she has those gifts or not) - to Ambrose, would jump on a - of all people, Jessie Mueller - bandwagon.

"I saw her in "Baby" in the Liz Callaway role around five years ago, and she was very disappointing. She could not belt the "money notes" on THE STORY GOES ON and had to switch to her head voice."

Neither could Liz Callaway, who also had to switch to her head voice for the end. What's your point?
