They should do The Wiz, and cast Janelle Monae as Dorothy. Though she's 29, Monae could easily pass for young enough.

Do you have any sort of a source on this? I'd love to read about it

No article yet, just numerous reporters/media outlets Tweeting about it from the TCAs.

Variety have the story, it's either the Wiz or The Music Man. The Freedom Run musical also sounds interesting.

Definitely The Wiz. The Music Man is overdone.

Wasn't Peter Pan kind of a letdown ratings wise? Glad they're still going for it. The Wiz could be more fun and interesting casting choices than Music Man.

Another vote for The Wiz here! Totally on board with the Janelle Monae idea, and would also love to see Bruno Mars as Scarecrow.

If they are doing it live, I hope they get some good camera crew. This show depends on the choreography and I was disappointed with some of the camera work on Peter Pan.

If it's The Wiz I predict NBC calls KeKe Palmer in 3...2..1...

I've been wanting Janelle Monáe to be apart of this for a while and I'm ecstatic it's being optioned. However, I feel as more realistically they'll cast Keke Palmer. But honestly, my dream above both Monáe and Palmer is definitely Raven Symone, but she's kind of doing her own thing right now so I doubt she'd do it. Do you know who'd make a great Evillene? Uzo Aduba.

My vote also goes to The Wiz!

They should mash it up. The Wiz Man.

Aretha Franklin for Evillene

Raven is older but she still reads young enough. I doubt realistically you'll find candidates with a name that will look like a 15-16 year old girl. Also, I second the Aretha vote. It'd be cool for them to include a legend in the show.
Lionel Richie as The Wiz?
Would also love to see Kecia Lewis Evans in this somehow...Aunt Em?

I have a feeling it will depend on casting. The article said music man OR the wiz. It will depend on probably if they can get Kelli for Marian. As for Wiz casting they will most likely go for Jennifer Hudson. She's a little old but a huge name bigger than Keke

Jennifer Hudson can certainly play one of the witches but she is really wrong for Dorothy.

After Walken in Pan, I'm not sure they want another diva.

Jennifer Hudson looks too mature for Dorothy. I love her, but both physically and vocally she'd be better for one of the witches. On a side note, what has Anika Noni Rose been up to? She'd make a wonderful Glinda.
Also, I wonder if they do pick it up, if NBC will cast the traditional all black cast or not. A lot of productions of the show these days tend not to so I'm wondering if NBC will or won't.
