M is a new on-line musical theatre magazine that takes a fresh look at theatre. Its totally different to anything out there at the moment and is full of photo-shoots, interviews, features and editorials on all things theatrical. Its fun, lively, and little bit naughty too!
Although mainly a UK publication at present, this issue sees a whole piece on NYC, an interview with Matt Shingledecker (currently sharing the role of Tony in West Side Story), and a whole lot more!

This makes my brain hurt. Does "its" (no apostrophe) mean "it is" in British?
At any rate and in any language, "myself" is never an appropriate substitute for "me" or "I."

aka Anna Wintour?
The real Anna Wintour would probably reach through the computer screen and slap you across the face for such an egregious misuse of her name if she knew how to do it (and I'm not entirely convinced that she doesn't, so be careful whenever you sit down at your computer).

I think it's great that someone wants to create their own magazine--and more to the point, I find it bizarre that everyone feels so eager to make fun of people who are trying to create and communicate. This kind of pettiness reflects poorly on the sensitivity and manners of those who purport to be so cultured! Why not just be grateful that someone is trying to make something?

Thank you, Phyl.
Anyone who aims to make a living (or even dabble) in any communication-oriented endeavor should be able to write.
Laziness and ignorance are merely tiresome. Enthusiasm alone, although cute and commendable, is not sufficient.

And why even launch something publicly before you've obviously NOT had a 2nd, 3rd, even FOURTH set of eyes check it?
Enthusiasm is great, but accuracy is even better.

"At any rate and in any language, 'myself' is never an appropriate substitute for 'me' or 'I.'"
Unless of course you are using it as the reflexive pronoun it is.

You don't use me or I as reflexive pronouns.
"I stuck myself with the pin" is correct. "I stuck I/me with the pin" is not.
"This is a picture of John and me" is correct. "This is a picture of John and myself" is not.
At any rate, I guess I should cut them some slack. The editor's note in the first magazine says that they can't write or use proper English; they're just interested in pictures of pretty people.
Which would explain why they keep talking about some band called Greenday.

But Phyl isn't writing a "publication". Phyl is simply communicating.
I read quite a bit of the "current issuue". It reads like a blog and is very "fangirl" in its approach. Nothing authoritative or research driven.
Just because it "is" doesn't mean we applaud it. Another problem with the world -- exhaulting mediocrity. (Like every kid on the soccer team getting a trophy -- for participating. Ugh.)

Um, as Phyl wrote in yet another fragment, "Because proper spelling and grammar are an important part of communication."
At any rate, I think it's fine to point out to the writers that they would benefit from some attention to their language. I would go so far as to say that I think someone *should* point it out--but it needn't be done in some snide way. You're not going to win any converts with complaints designed merely to flaunt your own ostensible superiority. That reeks of arrogance. I also think that it would make sense to couch criticism within broader comments about the merits of the work, rather than just tackily posting shrill observations about hot pink backgrounds.

Oh, please. A person comes here flaunting there "zine" as this great thing that is so revolutionary, and we're suppose to politely tell them why what they've created is nothing worth touting? A discussion board is raw, brutal and honest. If he didn't know that he shouldn't have "advertised" here.
Sure, is the pink comment a little silly? Sure, but to slam it for being grammatically weak is not.
No different than people saying what they actually think of Spider-man or any other show. Someone trying to be in the public eye can't be sensitive to the public's opinion.

"tackily posting shrill observations
You must not read this board very often.

I fail to see how design is any less of a factor in a magazine's merit than grammar, dramamama. If the site can't even be read without it being headache-inducing, how is that any "sillier" to point out than spelling errors?

Posted: 12/7/10 at 4:39amPutting it that way....you are right. I was assuming that comment was just a "I don't like pink" kinda thing. (And I suppose the defender of the mag felt the same way.)
