Are they crazy? I know we'll see plenty of discounts but still...it's the same price for every seat in the theater for an original play with no "names" in the cast. I personally think it's a masterpiece and can't wait to see it on Broadway but they are nuts charging this much.

That must be a misprint or something. Even "A Steady Rain" didn't have the gall to charge full price for rear mezz.

Even if I had found this play to be good, I would say these prices are out of line.
Since I thought it was terrible, I would say that even $10 would be exorbitant.
Every show in the Hayes since Xanadu has charged one price for the entire theatre. Xanadu started previews with cheaper seats in the last few rows of the mezzanine but that changed after they opened to good reviews.

I guess their argument is that, because the Helen Hayes is so small, every seat is like an orchestra seat.
I don't know if that is true, but it makes a little bit of sense...

I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's a good show. But it's not worth that much. Tickets should all be like $60, like their pricing off-Broadway to gain some momentum. I'm sure they'll open to good reviews, but still. It'll be a tough sell.
Hey guys, I thought I was the only one to complain about high ticket prices. They ain't going down kiddies & will only keep going up.
I had no intention of seeing it, Now, even on TDF, bye bye.

I'm sure it will be on TDF/TKTS and there will be a rush.
Anyone paying full price for the last row needs to have their head examined.
"Even if I had found this play to be good, I would say these prices are out of line.

Amen to that!
For the most part, I do understand having one price for every seat in the Helen Hayes. The 39 Steps has been doing that since they took over, so...misplaced outrage? That said, I do wish every show would have at least one affordable option--even if it's a single row. But I actually think the last row of the mezzanine of the Hayes for $116 is still more reasonable than the balcony of the Kerr for $57.
I truly loved this show, though, so even if they're overpriced, I wish them the very best.
just wait for the inevitable discount code.
Be practical. Be honest. Unless James Gandolfini, Hope Davis, Marcia Gay Harden and Jeff Daniels miraculously sign on for 8 months, at least 40 percent of the house will be available for 50 percent off 90 percent of the time.
And another 15 percent will be comped 20 percent of the time accomodating 100 percent of the members of this board.
No one is crazy.
Just because they'll offer discounts/comps doesn't mean they're not crazy for charging this much for a full-priced ticket.
Wow. A show with:
1. No stars (even by theatrical standards)
2. A rather niche plot
3. Almost a year between its original run and Broadway debut--long enough for those of us who even heard of it in the first place to forget about it
and they want to charge these prices? Ridiculous.
I also think it's a misprint.

That's what I'm saying. Why not be reasonable like the Finian's producers and offer affordable tickets without having to do some crazy discount codes? It's a good play, sure, but that's ALOT of money for basically the same production that was playing off Broadway at a fraction of that price. Unless the set is redone and now everything is on elevator lifts, I don't see why they would need that much to break even.

IMO, it's downright STUPID to charge those prices for a play that has no star power, no real name recognition and is opening during the tail-end of the winter doldrums. I definitely want to see it, but I'm switched if I'll pay those prices. Will just wait for a discount code or, if needs be, use the half-price line, which I'm sure it it will be on at least during previews.
This is insane. The producers' greed is going to kill the play before it opens.
Good point, rentboy. Its a fantastic show but what is the point in charging these prices anyway? Its gonna be dirt cheap to run if they keep it consistent in terms of production values with the Off-Bway production.
The 39 Steps has had the same pricing in the same theater for almost a year.
Did you actually expect the producers to charge less than the last tenant with a comparable product?
The 39 Steps has an average ticket price of $62. Next Fall will end up with the same ticket price.
The "retail" price of a theater ticket to a straight play without stars has become a joke. It's like the MSRP for New Cadillac CTS. You know going in that 5 grand is coming off the price.
People have been conditioned to expect discounts for products without great demand.

It's not comparable though. 39 Steps is a larger production than Next Fall. Next Fall basically has a unit set. 39 Steps is more technical than Next Fall is. I'm sure neither is hard to produce, so it just doesn't make sense. Why not make a top ticket price of 90 or something?
Wasn't the top ticket price for A:OC like $90 when it started performances? Or am I making that up?
Don't become producers or investors in the theater. You'll all lose your shirts.
