I was just watching TV and a comercial for the Tony Awards came on!!!
Then I realized something...with no host aren't the Tony's going to lose viewers. By getting a big host like Oprah they would have gained viewers, and even Hugh Jackman would get some viewers that wouldn't normall watch. Now, who are people going to watch it for the 60 Presenters?

I saw a commercial last night here in Denver also. It featured the nominated shows but no mention of the 60 stars. I am sure there will be an updated commercial. I can't see them not advertising that Oprah and Julia will be there.

I really thought for sure this was Oprah's year to host.

they did this I think when I was in high school perhaps...um, awhile ago, lol
Anyways, it was saaaaad.
as the opener instead of a fun number they just spent several minutes announcing the presenters and they all lined up. they may have sang a little, but it was stupid and boring.
I'm so disappointed. The biggest thing was that it made the evening feel so much like a chore rather than a celebration of the theatrical season. It's so loose, you really need a host to tie it all together.

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

Ugh. I'm not looking foward to this.
I'm still for Billy Crystal. His five minute stint at the beginning of last years was funnier than Hugh the whole time. And the last time the Oscars were actually good was with him. He would bring the ratings up, and still entertain us.
This is far-fetched, but has anyone ever though of having the Forbidden Broadway cast host? They make fun of the shows as a job. I think they could pull it off.

From a larger Jackman interview (on X-Men):

>How about to host the Tony Awards?
I'm not doing it this year because it's my father's 70th birthday in Australia and it clashes. But hopefully if they have me I'll be back next year.

I'm not opposed to no host... it will (hopefully) allow more time for the things we really love to see. I don't really know what it will do for the ratings, but who outside the theatre community watches the Tonys anyway? They have a small, but loyal built-in audience in the theatre community, so I don't think CBS is really in it to make billions of dollars in one night.
As a side note, and it totally would never happen, but I think it'd be hilarious to the theatre crowd (insiders only) if Bob Martin was to host IN CHARACTER as the Man in Chair. His witty Broadway "tidbits" are hysterical in DROWSY CHAPERONE. I wonder what Man in Chair has to say about other Broadway shows....

I think Couric should host because it would give the Tony's better ratings. She has seen most of the shows on Broadway. Plus, she is already with CBS!

Billy Crystal was onstage more than Hugh. The hosting was terrible last year.

There hasn't been a good host since Angela Lansbury or Julie Andrews, whoever did it last. Thank God, it's not Oprah.

Why was Harry Connick Jr. overlooked? I feel like he would have been a fabulous host, and I'm sure he would have said yes ? Isn't he a big enough star?
