Well this Really pisses me off because I'm going. And I really wouldn't of complained if it was just ANYONE. My top choice would of been the cast of Will and Grace. But they could have gotten Julia Roberts, Bernadette Peter, Rosie and I would be alot happier.
Wasn't Elaine Stritch available? At least we'd get to see full productions of each nominated show. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
What about having ushers from every theatre host it. hmmmmm

Nuh-uh. There should be a host. Someone who represents the evening. The evening is about Broadway, and the host should be the person who makes it about that.
If it were Oprah, I'd rather have no host, however. Depends on how she'd do it.
To me, the best hosts are the ones who make the evening enjoyable, smooth, tied together, and fast. Hugh Jackman did this in 2004. (Not at all in 2003 and not so much in 2005).
I've always wanted to run the entire Tonys or Oscars. In the case of the Tonys:
1) Get a host who is funny, liked, and can take control. 2) In addition to musical numbers from shows, add one or two numbers for the host. 3) Give the host the breakdown of the evening and tell him/her to make all jokes/gags short.
But the BIGGEST change I would make is to cut the role of the announcer. That is something the HOST should be doing. The host can make these announcements from backstage if it's simply "Please welcome blah blah blah," just like the announcer does. It's ridiculous not to have the host do this. An announcer should only be used at times when the host is unavailable.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Maybe they thought they didnt need one since they're going to have 7 performances which will take up a lot of time.
I think the idea of having the usher's host is kinda funny. Maybe not host, but present an award. Maybe one of the lesser-known ones or maybe have one usher from each of the nominated musicals to introduce them.
Capn, the HOST does not control the show. The director does. The host stands there, says some stupid jokes (see Harvey at the Drama Desks) and poops when the director tells them to. The best you can say about the best hosts is they weren't as bad as so and so and didn't totally suck.
If not the ushers, then how about the stage door men?
Who takes control of the show AS a host. The host has to appear as if they are the one who runs the show. The audience never sees the Director. I know the difference.

Martin Short is going to be a presenter. *sigh* I was hoping they would wake up and make him the host b/c he'd do a wonderful job!! He can sing and he's hilarious!! Plus he's a Tony Award winner so it's not like it's someone totally random who isn't connected with Broadway. And he's got his new Broadway show Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me coming to New York soon.
Great choice not taken... tsk, tsk!!

Oprah is going to be a presenter. I think they actually have a great idea going on with basically 60 presenter/hosts, each one representing a year in the life of the Tonys.
"Hell, I would've liked Ellen to host. Even though she really does not have a connection with Bway."
Wait, the Tonys have something to do with Broadway?

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
