They don't.
As announced by Broadway.com there is no host... over 60 presenters will share the responsibility. That's different.

I had a feeling this would happen.
It's odd, I think.

Didn't they do this once before?
And it didn't turn out so well?
For what it's worth, the Golden Globes doesn't have a host.
They also gave an award to Pia Zadora, so...

I would have hoped it would have been Oprah.

I hate when they do that. It just makes things jumbled.

The Grammys did this a couple years back, and I remember it being one of the dullest and lifeless Grammy awards I've seen.

Does anyone have links to either of these articles?

Oh I HATE this! What? Oprah, Jackman, et al said no so they decide to do this? It ruins a lot of the entertainment for me. Jackman's opening number at the 2004 Tonys was my favorite Tony moment in Tony Awards history!!

Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I atleast hope a group of the 60 presenters that are Broadway performers, will perform an opening number together.

Hell, I would've liked Ellen to host. Even though she really does not have a connection with Bway.

That sucks! I don't think that's a good idea, as someone said before it will look jumbled

Why do they need a host? For a bad opening monologue? A sad song and dance? Just get on with it. And when shows run long, as they ALWAYS do, the host ends up ditching the material to become an "introducer" anyway. I think it is a great idea. That way, if the first presenter (or "host") sucks we get some one new! What we don't need is Oprah up there telling us what a thrill this is for her. Please, just let the winners talk. Now maybe they will have time for the design awards to be presented live, too!
PEACE.

Maybe the tony's host ran off with the replacement award...

>>>Jackman's opening number at the 2004 Tonys was my favorite Tony moment in Tony Awards history<<<
I saw some clips from the Cannes showing of the movie footage from DREAMGIRLS and it showed them singing ONE NIGHT ONLY - and it brought back recent memories of the 2004 TONY show! That was such a great Opening number!
Re the NO HOST issue -- 60 Presenters ( I suppose to commemorate the 60th TONY Awards anniversary) sounds unwieldy without a host to tie up the entire evening together in a truly commemorative way.
