Tony should've won the Tony. He was the best part of Priscila.
He was favored to win. The only winner who was somewhat of a surprise was Nikki M James. But even that wasn't a shocker. Pretty predictable results all around.

Norbert deserved this awars. I was very happy for him. His performance with the cast of CMIYC at the Tonys tonight proved why he won.
Of course Norbs is over Gads, if it was the other way around he'd be crushed.
If you wanted him to win so bad you should have at least figured his name out first. Put that one in the "Get Over It" file.
I was watching the Richard Ridge interview of the Book of Mormon cast, and that group just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy. I now wish the Book of Mormon got an acting awards sweep as well. I know other people are more deserving, but I'm blinded by the warm and fuzzy.
Norbert DESERVED the Tony and RIGHTFULLY won it. That is all.
I would say all of the people in that category DESERVE to win - they were nominated and gave great performances. But in the end - there can only be ONE winner. And this year - it was Norbert - who gave a mesmerizing and fresh performance in Catch. Awards and opinions are subjective. Amusingly enough - most of the people who make such statements (begin posts) rarely, if ever, actually give reasons or their thoughts by way of comparison. It's usually just "___ was robbed" or "Xx over X?" or "Xx won?!"
I'm a little confused. Didn't Gad already win the Tony for playing that character?
On another note, was Gad in the audience? I didn't even see the camera show him when his name was read.
I guess now you say it, Butz did do a good job in his role, with character work and all that, but I just HATED that show so much. I thought Tony Sheldon did EXCELLENT work in Priscilla. I was voting for Sheldon.
I kind of saw that one coming: the two guys from "Book of Mormon" canceled each other out, and NLB snuck in.
Norbert was better than Rannells or Gad, in my opinion. He simply gave a stellar performance in a strong season. His speech really sold me too. After speaking about something so personal, he remembered to thank his dresser from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
I wouldn't have minded if Rannells had won, as he brought an amazing level of depth to what could have been a one-dimensional role, but Gad was playing Jack Black as a missionary.
I would have been happy with Norbert or Joshua Henry, satisfied with Andrew Rannells or maybe even Tony Sheldon, and only slightly dissappointed if Josh Gad had won. It was a strong category.
"c) suffered a tremendous loss and went on with the show."
Do they give awards for that now?
If so, why didn't Lily Rabe, who lost her mother, get anything?
"c) suffered a tremendous loss and went on with the show."
Patti done lost her mind and she didn't win nothin!
Bettyboy, Patti has lost her mind more times than I can count. If they gave Tonys for that, she would have one for every show she's done.
"Patti done lost her mind and she didn't win nothin!"
LOL!
Gad and Rannells have such great chemistry.
A tony award for each may have hurt that (subsconsciously)
so for the good of The Book of Mormon it may be great that they lost (unless they were nominated together like the Billy Elliot Boys were)
My choice was Sheldon. Alas we got Norbert Leo Butz.
Norbert Leo?? Really?? Lousy Part; Lousy Role Lousy show and the few seconds Aaron Tveit was on --he showed the real star power.
Aaron got a bum rap in that musical. He did all the work and had all the charm. Then the critics blamed him for what was the book writer's fault.
Like Norbert Leo but not in this role.

He had to do some of the hardest moves on the broadway stage. If anyone should of got it he did.
As for Nikki M James it was a relieve that she won.

Alrighty. Whoever has actually seen the movie "Catch Me if You Can" knows Norbert did not deserve that Tony. He portrayed Hanratty as a goofball. He was not a goofball. His performance alone ruined it. If anyone from that musical should have been nominated, it should have been Aaron Tveit. He was perfect for the role, had all the mannerisms of DiCaprio down, and was in great voice.
Rannells deserved that Tony. Just watch his performance on YouTube. He played that part perfectly. If anything, he did not win since you really couldn't have Rannells without Gad, and vice versa.
What about Josh Henry? If Rannells/Gad did not win, he should have won, hands down before Norbert won. Hell, like 15 people should have won before Norbert.

I would've preferred anyone win other than Tony Sheldon, but am quite happy that it was Norbert. He was brilliant in Catch Me If You Can.
Tony Sheldon actually would have been my pick, but Gad would have been my last pick of all the nominees.

I don't think the aim was to take straight from the movie, the movie is fine but hardly something to lose sleep over direct adaptation. Hank's had a hammy Kennedy accent so it was a bit jarring seeing NLB not only looked quite different (for some reason I kept picturing the character Saul from Coming to America) but pretty different in the mannerisms. I have not seen the show (I also doubt Tom Wopat is aiming to be Christopher Walken's elder Abagnale as nobody can be Christopher Walken) but I do wonder of the direction they took with the character of Carl among other places where they differed from the movie. Hanks sort of had a Javert quality in the form of B-movie G-Man in the film.
I really wanted Andrew to win after that "I Believe" performance. So freaking cute. I think the mormon boys ended up splitting the vote.

Is THAT what they gave Tony Awards for?
Really?
Getting Leonard CiCaprio's mannerisms down?
I didn't know that.
THANKS!
I know it's like giving a Tony to the next Elphaba because she acted exactly like Idina. At least Norbert did something new.
