if your waiting before the show. the actors have to enter from the 56 th street backside street of the theater entrance. everything at city center shares this stage door. after the show is either the lobby you can see some actors or some should leave through the stage door too. The only two shows I remember stage dooring for at MTC Stage I are Ruined and The Receptionist, and I think that in both cases, all of the actors exited the building through the same doors that the audience does. So I would wait on that street for the actors. If you wait inside, you might miss anyone who gets to the exit level by using the elevator (which a couple of the actors used), unless you are really fast and alert. (Of course, if it's freezing outside, it might be worth the risk!)
"What was the name of that cheese that I like?"
"you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start"
"well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"
Unless there is some secret tunnel that I am unaware of anybody stage-dooring on 57th street for any show at City Center is going to be waiting a very, very long time.
I waited in that warm little vestibule on 56th Street for Fiorello! and met the cast minus Emily Skinner plus one of the cute dancers who is now in Matilda. And Betsey Wolfe was there as well, some people didn't know who she was but figured she was an actress.
I had been told that some people leave from the driveway next door to the vestibule or the front lobby on 55th. For MTC, I met the cast of Murder Ballad in the lobby that the audience uses.
@OKBroadwayFan Hmm okay, thanks for sharing! I guess maybe I'll take a chance on the stage door on 56th for Ms. Falco! If anyone else has seen The Madrid, please share!
