Posted: 5/9/08 at 11:11amDamn you, Michael Riedel, and damn the New York Times, for making your predictions that - and this is frustrating - are probably right.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 12:32pmI'd love to know which nominators think they're going to nominate South Pacific for Best Orchestrations. It's not eligible for that award, since they're using the original orchestrations.

Riedel gets his info from 1 or 2 people, or, while eaves dropping at Angus.
And he's known for his poor predictions.

Bustopher, New York Times...?
And yes adamgreer, I thought the same thing. Also notice it didn't make a mention of the lighting for that show, just the set and costumes.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 12:42pmIt sounded as if Riedel is backtracking a bit, vis-a-vis Xanadu. I hope this is a good sign, but nothing will be in cement (nominations-wise) until Tuesday. Can you imagine what the board is going to be like once the nominees are announced? Mayhem for the next month.

Why do you think he is backtracking, Ed?
He said a week or two ago that "Xanadu" would be nominated, (which is basically what today's article was about).
He just didnt think the show would win.
Or, are you referring to Roberts and/or Jackson getting noms?

The best musical predictions Reidel makes are pretty much what I have predicted. I do think Jackson, Butler, Roberts and Mary Testa will be nominated. And the Xanadu producers were smart to remind the nominating committee that the show got great reviews. (And we were all predicting doom and gloom for that little show.)

Well, not ALL of us :))
I just want to know who gets bumped, if Roberts gets a nom?

My Predictions for Best Featured Actor in a Musical:
Daniel Breaker, Passing Strange
Christopher Fitzgerald, Young Frankenstein
Tony Roberts, Xanadu
Danny Burstein, South Pacific
Robin de Jesus, In the Heights
With the possibility of either Breaker or de Jesus being knocked out by Harvey Fierstein in Catered Affair

Funny, bwaygal1.
You think Boyd Gaines is going to be snubbed?

Posted: 5/9/08 at 1:44pmRobin de Jesus pretty much stole ITH for me. I left and all I could think is that he made me laugh harder than anything else in that show. I'd love to see him at least get nominated!

I think Boyd Gaines is the only one with a guaranteed nod in the featured actor-musical category.

Could it be ... A Riedel column I actually ... ENJOYED?
Oh, Michael, you're a gem!

Foster-
I apologize for overlooking Gaines, who SHOULD be in leading actor, not featured.
Then, Tony's chances are none.
Boyd Gaines
Robin de Jesus
Daniel Breaker
Harvey Fierstein
Christopher Fitzgerald

Every Herbie in the past four Broadway productions has been counted as Featured.
Have you seen A CATERED AFFAIR and SOUTH PACIFIC?
Burstein will get nominated over Fierstein.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 2:24pmI loved South Pacific but Harvey Fierstein is beloved and possesses 'living legend' status. He will be nominated. If Burstein gets a nod it'll be over Breaker or de Jesus. (de Jesus' role is so small I'd hardly nominate him but he'll probably get the nod.)
