<< (de Jesus' role is so small I'd hardly nominate him but he'll probably get the nod.) >>
Ok, now I have to ask if you saw "In The Heights" ?
Not small role at all for "featured"

"Have you seen A CATERED AFFAIR?"
I'm wondering the same thing. Or at the very least, have they read the reviews for A Catered Affair? The one thing that was panned pretty much across the boards was Fierstein's portrayal of Winston. I highly, highly doubt he gets nominated.

I had a question; After reading all of the information which the Tony board says that certain shows and actors could be eligible for nominations...does that mean they will actually get the nomination?
Thanks!

Posted: 5/9/08 at 3:03pmNo, it only means they COULD get one.

I've said several times that Tony Roberts & Mary Testa will both be nominated.
Mr Roberts is beloved within the industry and he's not getting any younger.I think the committe will give him a nod for his body of work. And, Mary Testa has two previous nominations and is always a crtics darling.

Hadn't thought of a Best Score nod for Cry-Baby.
I guess it's possible. It just has to edge out Young Frankenstein and Little Mermaid.

Bustopher, New York Times...?
Every year, the New York Times - after the nominations have been released - writes an article in which a reporter interviews about 20 or so voters, producers, etc. about who they think will win.
What's frustrating is that, 9 times out of 10, those predictions are correct. The only one I can recall being wrong right now is their prediction that Brian F. O'Byrne would win Best Leading Actor for DOUBT (but then, almost no one saw Bill Irwin coming).
Which is why I'm worried: when that article comes out, someone will post it, and someone will post it again and spoil one of the predictions in the thread title, and they'll probably be right. It ruins the fun.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 4:55pmI think that YF should at least get nominated for Best Orchestrations. Chris Fitzgerald is a no-brainer. YF is the only new show I have seen and I'm from the Mid-West so I was in NY for the first time. Huge broadway fan but haven't really looked at passing strange or a catered affair. I'm excited to see how the noms pan out.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 5:16pmOf course Stew deserves a Best Actor nomination. His nomination isn't even a question. I'm surprised so many people predict Danny Burstein to get a nomination. His performance is just so....unnatural. In any other production of South Pacific he'd be wonderful, but he just doesn't FIT well in this one. Everyone else is so natural and not hamming for jokes. Burstein was fine, but his approach just didn't fit with what everyone else was doing.

I disagree. I think the nominees could VERY easily be:
Szot
Jackson
Miranda
Wopat
Evans

Could Fitzgerald be a victim of the YOUNG FRANK backlash and be bumped by Roberts?
I didn't really enjoy Fitzgerald that much, he basically did old schtick. (IMO)
I never even thought of Roberts getting a nod, but Hmm.
I think Harve will get one, talk about being beloved in the community, but if he gets one for book, and he should, maybe he will be bumped out of Featured Actor.
Reidel left quite a few out of the "flowers" comment. (Benanti anyone?)
I am still laughing at the no one saw Bill Irwin coming comment.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 6:03pmI think it would be a real injustice if Fitzgerald was not given a nom... To me, the only redeeming feature of "YF"

I think the nominating committee is either going to go bat sh*t crazy for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN or give it like one nomination. And to be honest, I think it could go either way, regardless of what Riedel noted in his article.
I really hope Tony Roberts doesn't get nominated for XANADU. He really doesn't deserve a nomination over Fitzgerald if that is the case at hand. And even if he did, Fitzgerald would have a MUCH better shot at winning whereas Roberts' nomination would clearly be his award as he would have absolutely no chance of winning.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 10:15pmI feel that Tony Roberts is deserving of a Tony Nomination. He is extremely funny, a pro and still has a wonderful singing voice! He is very clever and cunning with his part and makes it very memorable. I am really excited and nervous about the nominations. There are so many brilliant actors who should be nominated this year, and I have a feeling many will be passed over. I really need to see South Pacific, even though I don't like the show. But I really want Sunday in the Park with George to win and the two leads.
