Does anyone know of a Discord server (or similar) specifically oriented around theater in NYC? Or one with a significant number of members in NYC. I'd love to have a group of people to discuss shows outside of just Broadway and/or maybe plan theater outings.
One (1) comes up if you do a search under Discover - just joined it myself to see how annoying (or not) it is.

What's it called, I don't see one. and if anyone else knows of one I'd be interested to know as well!
Did you search "Broadway"? It literally comes right up: Joshua's Musical Cove.
Update: I already left it, the audience is extremely young (majority under 20) and it's not at all theater-centric in the way I think we would want it to be.

Oh, I did see that one, but I was hoping there was one that was specific to NYC based or frequent theatergoers. Maybe someone else here knows of one :)
Yes, I hope so, too! I could make one - I've run a few servers over the years - but ugh that's so much work. LOL

I'm not tech savvy enough to start a server, lol, but I'm in if someone else makes one!

Yeah I've found a few Broadway/musical ones but most of them seem focused around a small cluster of musicals (like Hamilton, Heathers, Six, Be More Chill, etc) and I was looking for more general NYC/off-Broadway content.
I've never made one before but I can try making one since there seems to be some interest (veronicamae, might dm you for help if I run into issues, if that's okay with you)
The hell is Discord Server? I've heard of it twice in the last three days, and I have no idea what it is. Is it for the kids?

Discord is like a glorified message board. I am in a private discord group for art collecting. There's about 100 of us and you have to be invited in. There's a general chat area for anything not art related, but then there's different chat channels for other art, artist news, movies, etc. Depending who is the owner is, it can be very organized. But I have seen others that are disasters or overrun by teenagers.

i've joined TOO many broadway discord servers and they all skew very young and are extremely fandom-y... as frustrating as these boards can be sometimes, they've honestly been the single best place for online theatre talk year after year.
(chrishuyen if you make one can you send/dm inv link... i have experience admining servers so can offer help if needed!)

I totally get what you mean about the Broadway discord servers. Sometimes they can be overwhelming with the fandom vibes. But it's great to hear that the theater discussion boards have been a reliable place for online theater talk. They've been my go-to as well. By the way, sorry for jumping in on an older thread, but I'm also on the lookout for similar theater-focused Discord servers. If you have any recommendations or if you've come across any interesting discussions, I'd love to hear about them. I've been browsing online and stumbled upon a website that lists various Discord accounts. It's been quite helpful in finding different communities to connect with. It's good to know that today's kids have these internet places where they can discuss theater. I didn't have that in the early 60's. The best I could do was call the box office of our local theater at off hours to chat with the staff about all things theatrical. They were very nice about it.
