NYC This Week

So we'll be in the city this week. I arrive Monday morning, monica arrives at midnight... so i'm gonna catch a show that night on my own (i have two option, aveq or rent, haha). and then we're going to try and catch as many shows as we can during the week before we leave Friday morning.

SO, I need help finding the best deals and prices. Here's what I think we're going to watch... whats the best way to schedule them, and which shows have lotto, student rush, etc etc? i need to get as many good cheap deals as possible so we dont go broke...

RENT or AVEQ (on monday night)
COLOR PURPLE
CURTAINS
LEGALLY BLONDE
SPRING AWAKENING

re: NYC This Week

Curtains has front row tickets when the box office opens for $55. If they sell out of those, I think they sell side orchestra seats.

re: NYC This Week

curtains has front row tix for $55??? when the box office opens in the morning? is it some sort of student rush or just regular rush tix?

re: NYC This Week

They have some front row seats that are considered "restriced view" and discounted. They're great seats!
Ask about their discounted tickets at the box office : )

re: NYC This Week

Here are my questions. Can anyone help me verify the following... i know you guys know all the best ways to get tickets:

1. CURTAINS: $55 Tickets? I dont see this mentioned anywhere but a previous poster says they do it?

2. COLOR PURPLE: $26.25 Rush Tickets? (No Student ID needed)... what time should i arrive in the morning to make the line at the box office?

3. LEGALLY BLONDE: Student Rush? what time should i arrive in the morning to make the line at the box office?

4. RENT: $25 Lotto seats? is it easy to win on a monday night?

5. SPRING AWAKENING: Student Rush $25? what time should i arrive in the morning to make the line at the box office?

6. Do any of the main cast members not play any of the performances? like matinees, etc?

re: NYC This Week

Who's Monica? Are you two a BWW power couple I should know about? I'm just kidding.

Avenue Q has Lottery drawings. Be there at 5:30 for 8PM shows..They draw at 6. Obviously, it is a long shot, but I hear they are front row for 21.50. TKTS will cost you around 66. If you haven't seen the show, it is worth every 6600 pennies.

Monday nights may be particularly hard, since it is a dark night, and very few shows are playing (Rent, Avenue Q, Phantom, and I forgot the other one + Off BWay).

Last week (1/02), I rushed for SA. I got there are 7am, and there were 7 kids lined up in front of me. I got fairly good seats ROW D, last two seats on the right. I would say 8 or 8:30 for SA rush, 9 if you don't mind where you sit.

I saw ACL tonight, it was fantastic, and I got rush tickets when I arrived at the theatre at 10..REALLY GOOD SEATS for $35..you might want to add it to your list!

Legally Blonde, I did not rush. I did TKTS..it was 68. It wasn't a bad seat, although I would've preferred something a little closer. I think they give out front row seats for rush, but I can't say what time I think you should be there..The earlier the better. Don't forget to check weather conditions.

Did not rush Color Purple either, I just have to say it's a fantastic show.

re: NYC This Week

i've settled on RENT for Monday night. I saw AveQ a few years ago when it was still with the OBC and its one of my all time favorites. Strangely enough i have never seen RENT (just general lack of interest) so i figured might as well go for it.

has anyone tried for the $20 lotto Rent tickets lately? how hard is it to win? am i better off just TKTS-ing?

re: NYC This Week

I did Curtains partial view, which the box office discounted 15 minutes before the show over the summer. $56 each I think, which ended up being behind the conductor! Amazing seats, though limited leg room.

re: NYC This Week

I have the worst luck when it comes to lotteries, but Rent lotto hasn't been too busy, maybe 40-60 people on weekdays? Mondays are generally busier, since it's one of the few things open. And even if you don't win, they usually have some sort of post lotto discount, which is usually at least as good as what TKTS has.

Check Broadwaybox.com for Legally Blonde. I got orchestra seats for almost half price.

re: NYC This Week

Do any of the big stars miss matinee performances? like does david hyde not do matinees for curtains? or laura bell for legally?

I went by the box office last week to ask about student tickets and was told that people start lining up around 3-4am. AM!! That's insane. I have no idea if that was only because of Fantasia or if it has calmed down since she left or what.

re: NYC This Week

I think Laura usually gives notice a head of time if she's going to be out (someone correct me if I'm wrong). She's going on vacation Jan. 25-27 and the end of February, so you should be fine.

re: NYC This Week

David Hyde Pierce has missed only one week of performances (his scheduled vacation) in his entire run with CURTAINS.

He is committed, and never misses.

re: NYC This Week

sweet! well this is the schedule for now:

Monday
RENT

Tuesday
CURTAINS

Wednesday
2: LEGALLY
8: THE COLOR PURPLE

Thursday
SPRING AWAKENING

i think that way we can see everything we want to see but also we wont miss any of the big names in the shows... we're going to have to cram so much into a few days!

re: NYC This Week

Do both of you have student IDs? If not, you will have to be in two lines at once to rush both Blonde and TCP on Wednesday. Last time I checked (which, granted, was a while ago), both rushes were pretty popular. If you want to try waiting in one line, then running over the other, go for it. But you might not get both.

I would swap one of the two Wednesday shows for one that has lottery or some other, not-at-10AM discount deal so that you don't have to clone yourself.

If both of you have a student ID and you don't mind waiting separately, then ignore me.

re: NYC This Week

monica has a student ID, i dont. so for shows that have student rush like BLONDE, we'll be in line together but she'll be buying them with her ID.
#22

re: NYC This Week

Then split up BLONDE and TCP. Both box offices open at 10 AM and both tend to have lines early in the morning. There's a chance you'll be able to run back and forth and get tickets, but I'm not sure.

re: NYC This Week

oh shoot! you're right... didnt even think of it that way... monica can make the line for BLONDE since a student ID is needed, and i can make the line for PURPLE since you dont need a student ID for it right?
