Nanny Cam at Ragtime#1
Posted: 12/19/09 at 2:45pmGot word from a friend that someone in the orchestra section had a nanny cam in a doll that she was panning back and forth through the night. Don't know if she was caught.

Nanny cams are cameras hidden in toys so that parents can see what a nanny is doing with their children while the parents at out of the house.
It seems an audience member brought one hidden in a doll to Ragtime.

Well, one has to assume that the person would hold the doll up and move the camera across the stage slowly. Like when a camera pans.

Posted: 12/19/09 at 2:53pmThe lens only covers so much, so they were doing what in the world of video conversions for formats like bringing cinemascope films like Lawrence of Arabia, they Pan and scan, i.e., move the camera from side to side in order to catch as much of the scene as possible. In the context of video conversion, the old 3:4 aspect ratio of TV isn't friendly to widescreen pictures, so in the conversion process, they used to pan and scan the frame to catch all the action.

Posted: 12/19/09 at 5:19pmBesides maybe a child bringing a doll to a Broadway show, who else would? I think it would be extremely noticeable.

re: Nanny Cam at Ragtime#11
Posted: 12/19/09 at 5:44pmwell I'm sure it was an adult who had their child carry the doll in, and then they most likely used it to film.
re: Nanny Cam at Ragtime#12
Posted: 12/19/09 at 5:56pmDoes anyone know what she looks like? I work at The 39 Steps, and I distinctly remember someone coming to the matinee today with her mother, and she looked like she was around 15ish, carrying a doll with her. I thought it was odd that she was that old and carrying around a doll, but this might explain it.
