#1Nederlander Theatre mezz seating question
Posted: 7/13/12 at 11:56pmI bought a couple of tickets to see Newsies in the Nederlander. I was super excited to find front row mezzanine, center seats. Now, I'm kind of freaking out that the view might be obstructed. 1) There seems to be a bar...the consensus from prior posts is that this isn't a huge deal unless you're short, which I'm not. Hoping this isn't an issue. 2) I was looking at pictures of the theatre on a website called foursquare, and if I'm not mistaken, there's a rather large black stereo (?? or light or something box-like) in front of the mezzanine that seems to have an alarmingly high chance of obstructing the view. Anyone know what I'm referring to? Do you think this will be a problem? Am I just being neurotic?

Posted: 7/14/12 at 12:13amI haven't seen Newsies there, but the view from the front of the mezz at the Nederlander is fantastic! It's very close to the front of the stage since it hangs relatively further out over the orchestra than most theatres. If I were you I wouldn't worry.

Posted: 7/14/12 at 12:20amYou won't have a problem from the front row of the mezzanine. There's some kind of sound equipment further back, but that won't affect your view.

Posted: 7/14/12 at 12:24amI sat in the front row mezz-- the seats are AMAZING, and there is no need to worry about a view obstruction. I am short, but the bar didn't affect my sight line.

Posted: 7/14/12 at 4:05pmI sat front row center of the mezz for Newsies back in March (still in previews). There is a loooot of equipment right in front of the front row. I was able to see the stage but there were several times when I had to crane my neck around the equipment to see downstage center. When I saw Newsies again, I made sure to get at least the 3rd or 4th row of the mezz. I'm 6' tall, so you would think that would be enough to see over the equipment. Maybe it was just there for previews? I dont know.

Phantom4ever, how much of the action takes place downstage center that's blocked by the equipment? Did it significantly impact your viewing? I guess it doesn't really matter at this point, but still curious...
Thanks for the replies.

Posted: 7/15/12 at 2:20amI sat front row centre mezzanine at Newsies and had to lean waaaay forward in the seat to see a few of the scenes around the big fixture. It happened maybe 4 or 5 times overall, and not for terribly long, so although it was just mildly annoying each time, it really did not make any big impact on my enjoyment of the show.

Posted: 7/15/12 at 7:31pmLenster, it was just brief moments that were downstage center (usually between the two leads). I thought I knew that theater so well because I saw RENt from the front-center mezz 10,000 times. It was kind of like having a guy with a big head in front of you. Most of the show you can sit in a way where you can still see everything, despite the giant head. But, occasionally you miss something because of the head.

You are seeing NEWSIES in the Nederlander? Thank God, I thought you were seeing it in the Majestic.

Posted: 7/21/12 at 10:25pmFor people have sat in the Mezz... is it better than the orchestra? I sat in Orchestra Right row D and loved my view. I would like to see it again from possibly another location in the house.

Posted: 7/21/12 at 11:28pmMezzanine. With the three story set and a dance heavy show? MEZZANINE. For the record, I have seen Newsies from both and far and away I had a better viewing experience upstairs.. once I managed to climb over seats to get to MY seat, thanks to the absolutely disgusting layout of seats at the top of the center stair into the mezzanine.

Posted: 7/22/12 at 11:14amI saw Newsies from row DD of the mezz, and I absolutely loved the show! I would like to see it again, but I wouldn't mind having more legroom in the orchestra. I know it's a dance heavy show with a three-tiered set. I found orchestra seats in row L, a little bit on the side. How do you think these would be? The mezzanine overhang starts at row L, so I wouldn't be under it too much. Any advice would be appreciated!
